Most everytime I go to get a game I get stressed. The stress it might get sold out from under you, or they may want more money at the last minute. The stress it won't work when you get there or get it home. The stress that you could get killed loading it.

Then there's the auctions. The stress of the bidding, the long line to pay. Then the waiting your turn for loading. Stress from the need to get more truck at the last minute because that grail shows up that you weren't expecting or the cool deal that came up unexpectedly.

This is something I've been aware of for a long time. Course it never stopped me from chasing! Just picked up two in the past month. :)

I know what you mean I just picked up a couple of machines last month they were in storage in -30 C weather so they couldn't be tested he was positive they were working but no way to check. So I told him I would take him at his word and let him know what happened in a couple of days. Well the good news was they both worked so I was happy and let him know. Now I'm waiting till he sells the rest in his storage locker he has like 9 other lockers of games but wont sell those till he clears out the first locker I'm hoping its summer by than. Apparently his dad ran the machines all in the northern area now that he's passed no one feels like driving around to take care of them. He did have a real nice PacMania with the 3D bezel but one side was buggered on the graphics. I was tempted but decided I had no more room at the moment.

Stress

I think it''s fun to meet people in the hobby, make deals, and bring them home. The biggest stress I have is how to bring home another cabinet and hope my wife doesn't notice.

Im in the same boat my man. Im in the process of doing that right now with a simpsons 4 player cab. She said "no more games until you fix the ones you have." Well what the fuck do you do when you run into something you cant pass up? This: tell her your buddy got a simpsons for your birthday. LOL.

Hah me too. I have stressed about a couple of games but for the most part it is all part of the fun. I have been mad after spending 10 hours round trip only to learn my lesson that one mans mint restored is another machine that I bought but grumbled all the way home about its condition. Lesson learned never deal with them again. The wife on the other hand I do not have that same luxory.

It seems the wife is the ultimate problem in this hobby from what I hear. I have not had this problem as of yet. But, my stress is when I chase a good deal on Craigslist or elsewhere, and some vulture has beat me to the punch. This has happened to me twice now and they were both deals that I am sure may never come up again. Only time will tell. Things like a cocktail Galaga for 300.00 or a cherry nice vintage working Pong machine for 200.00. These were actual ads I saw and missed. Makes me sick sometimes and usually takes me a long time to get over it. But I guess that is the nature of this hobby and what keeps it exciting. I have to say I have had some good deals though that I may have beat someone else to the punch. That is how I have to keep my sanity to perceive those situations and turn negatives into positives and bury my feelings when things like that happen.

You just have to learn to not sweat the small stuff. If you don't get the game, is the world going to end? Bid to you max and then let it go. If you go to see a game and the guy sells it out from under you, that's the sellers fault. Sure some douche might have offered 2x asking, but if your going to see a $100 tempest, you should let the seller know you would be willing to go more on it.

There are plenty of games out there for everyone. If you miss one deal, just wait another will come around.

That's stress to you? That's the fun part for me. If you're really stressing, maybe you should be collecting something else? Or not collecting at all. No reason to cut years off your life when it could be avoided.

It's definitely stressful for me too. The fun is once it's where it's supposed to be and I turn it on and it works.

I have to agree with Joe on this one. The hunt, road trips, etc is the best part. Sometimes things don't go as planned but sometimes there are some hidden bonuses that pop up during the deal/transaction. You just need to know when to jump on it or walk away.

Same for me , I HATE having to go through the whole drama of chasing a game on Craigslist , driving who knows where , hoping it actually works or I can get it working , that I beat the other buyers , moving the damn thing . It all sucks.

But I love playing them so thats the crap you gotta go through to get it home .

You also have the ultimate arcade mover , a lift gate on your truck ! Now thats a luxury ,

My biggest stress is transporting them. Loading them in the truck and making sure everything is secure.

I still check out the back every minute or so, just to be sure.

Other than that, I've rarely been burned by a backdoor or someone jacking the price up (never, actually... had someone fail to provide a marquee they said they had, but I was already in the area, so it wasn't a HUGE deal... other than that thing being extremely rare)

No, it's only stressful if the game is in someone's basement and you have to pull it up a dozen steps. But my wife is really great at helping to make deals.
It's good teamwork!

Steve

Zero stress. You're probably a person that stresses about stuff (in general)

I can do you one better. My fiance informed me one time that Donkey Kong was her favorite game. THe end result? I picked up a Crazy Kong Mini, a DK Mini, and a double DK. None of them count toward my total because they were purchased due to it being her favorite game. Although, really the deals were great and I wanted them LOL.

I don't ever get stressed going to pick up a game or going to an auction. I have never had a game sold out from under me either, but if I did I would still be excited on the ride there for it, pissed off afterwards probably. As for auctions, I just know what my maxes are on certain games, and I try to stay within them. Nothing to stress about if somebody wants a game more than you do at an auction.

When I am stressed is when I sell and ship items. I always worry that somebody isn't ging to like the condition the same as me, or that stuff is going to get damaged by the shipper. I just shipped out 3 pinball machines to a guy on Tuesday in St Louis. It is just about killing me waiting for the confirmation that they all got there in 1 piece.

A year or two ago, I tried to buy a really nice Defender for cheap, and he sold it as I was driving there (after saying he would hold it). That stressed me out and pissed me off. After I cooled down a bit, I realized how stupid it was to be mad over that. I haven't been stressed in this hobby since. I don't usually chase the deals anymore. It is much easier to pay a little higher price and not compete with the resellers.

These days, I prefer to buy from people on the forums or ops. I like to BS with people that are interested in these games, and most of the random CL buys I have had are from sellers that really don't have an interest.
