Does a working Omega Race exist???

I feel like I may be jinxing myself posting here but...

A thing of beauty! WOW!

I have a question to the op's or who had routes back then. When Omega Races craped out back then, were these fixable? About every OR I've seen has been ranging from nice to very nice condition. Was battery damage a culprit back then? Was just asking cause my friend owns one, sans a boardset, and this thing is beautiful!

I worked for an op shortly after this game came out.

While it was fixable it just wasnt worth the effort. OR made very little money on the route and those frame mount transistors were close to $40.00 EACH back then! The B/W monitors werent all the big a deal to fix but when a K6100 would crap out and take out $240.00 worth of transistors before the screen had a change to warm up and show a picture... I think you get the idea.

Kits were starting to become viable options for cabinets that didnt make money or had an X/Y monitor in them so a lot of vectors got converted.

Just to clarify, are you stating that OR came with a 6100 originally? I find this highly unlikely. Maybe I'm reading it wrong...

I was just generalizing. The cost to repair those monitors had everything to do with why the games got converted. Tempest was a great earning game but the monitor sucked eggs to fix. GO8's were about the death of me back then.

LOL. Thought one of us was crazy a few minutes ago.... :D

The death of OR, in my opinion, came from the pcb issues. The b/w monitors were a dime a dozen then. Wish they were now!

The batteries didn't become a big deal until much later in the games life (5+ years or so). By the time the batteries started to leak the games were already converted or put away because of the monitor failures.

I cant even tell you guys how many B/W's, 6100's, 6400's, GO8's and even some Hantarex vectors I've thrown away in my life time...

It's funny how some recall these games being converted (vectors in general) to others. Not too many from my recall. Then again, what do I know? :D

Years ago, on RGVAC, there was talk of someone working on a replacement boardset for OR. Guess it never happened or wasn't feasible. I got rid of a pretty nice upright cabinet for next to nothing, because I didn't see finding a working boardset. Working, it's a really nice looking game.

I clearly remember converting 10 Tempests one week to MegaZone's. Pulled the Tempest hardware, THREW it ALL in the trash and installed that dopey game along with a new monitor.

We used to send 20 or so Asteroids a week to Universal to have them strip the cabs and install MrDo! and MrDo's Castle in them.

If I only knew.... I've even converted coveted Laser disc games. Interstallar, many SA's and DL's, Cobra Commands, FREEDOM FIGHTERS (3 of them), Don Quiote's... You name it.

WOW! Sometimes forget that these were used to make $$$.
Cool story.
