Doctor Kong - a short documentary by Alexis Neophytides

Hi everyone,

As many of you know, Alexis Neophytides (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1122991/), a talented actress and filmmaker has been filming and documenting my Donkey Kong journey. Shortly after my first million point game of Donkey Kong in September 2009, I knew the Donkey Kong world record was within my grasp. She approached me with the idea of making a documentary about me. The documentary covers my life from the November 2009 Funspot gathering to when I obtained the world record in February of 2010 and the aftermath that followed.

I had a chance to watch the documentary recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. The film is completely drama free, completely accurate and very professional. I would classify it as a feel good comedy. Many of you on these forums have a cameo in the film and there is a lot of never seen before footage.

There will be a trailer available shortly at http://www.doctorkongthemovie.com. Commemorative/promotional postcards (see below) were distributed at the Tron Off and several people were kind enough to bring them back to their local arcade (Ground Kontrol, Funspot, Stella's, Richie Knucklez).

The first 2 screenings have been scheduled. The premiere will be at The Gutter in Brooklyn, NY next month and there will be a 2nd screening the Friday before the Kong Off at Richie Knucklez in Flemington, NJ.

I believe the screenings will be for free and a DVD will be available for purchase afterwards (price to be determined). If you enjoy the documentary, please support my friend, filmmaker and fan by buying a DVD afterwards. She has captured a crucial period in my journey at her own personal expense.

Awesome, Hank! I look forward to purchasing one. Can we buy on Saturday at the Kong off?

Wow, that sounds great. I don't know how early I will be in NJ Friday, but I hope I can see the show. If not it would be a great addition to the Kong movie pile I have going on.

Congratulations, Dr. Hank! I've said it before here--your YouTube videos should be required viewing for DK players--nobody does it better. I've viewed your videos a number of times and they honestly have helped my game. I'll be sure to watch this new documentary--you've earned the status as the #1 player and you're a credit to the classic arcade gaming sport. It's great to see that you're finally getting props for your achievements in this realm.

I don't think I'm stretching things to call competitive video gaming a "sport". It places similar pro-sport demands on a person. It just lacks the $90M salaries.

I'm curious if the eye-hand coordination and real-time thought processes required to play at your level help you in your occupation... or is it the other way around? Or both!?

PS: My machine (near St. Louis) is pristine. No balky joystick here! Has a new Dr. Chien WR written all over it, don't you think? I'd even do all the video documentation work for T/G.

I picked up this DVD at the Kong off. It's a cute little documentary. Was a little bummed it was only 18 minutes long. But, it was pretty fun to watch. Hank, I love your laugh!

How much were they changing for the DVD, if you don't mind me asking? I wouldn't mind watching it, but yeah too bad it's only 18 minutes long.
