Do You Think Famous Dave's BBQ Knows about the Game Pigout?

I hear their commercials on the radio here all the time about "Find Wilbur the Pig" and "register to win a summer pigout", etc. Plus, the restaurants that I have been to are filled with silly pig memorabilia, nostalgic chachkeys and historical signs and pictures from the early 1930's through the 80's or so. Wonder if they'd ever think about adding a piece of nostalgia from the early 90's? Pigout would be the perfect piece of "pig history" for Famous Daves. It was almost as if the game was created in anticipation of the franchise. Agree? Wouldn't it be sweet to walk into the lobby and see a restored one waiting to be played? I think so.

I wonder why pig and duck cartoon creatures seem to promote walking around pantsless?

(There might be more famous half-naked barnyard animals, but I've heard the term "Donald Ducking" or "Daisy Ducking" more often when it comes to people having no-pants fetishes...?)

There is one of these a block from my work. I love that place.

My friends and I have tried several different dishes there. Literally everything on the plate was good. The BBQ, the catfish, the slaw, the fries, the cornbread, etc etc.

I have a friend who works in purchasing for them. It's HIS JOB to test the food. Everyday.

Man, I picked the wrong line of work.

I just ate at one of those for the first time in Nashville a couple of months ago. I was shocked at how good the BBQ was for a chain. I find it interesting that you guys in other parts of the country share the same opinion. That cabinet in the flyer looks like the same one that was used for DL2. Is it the same as the dedicated SF2: CE as well? Or were there some differences...

I agree, Dave's is not as good as say Red Hot & Blue (here in the DC area) or Corky's out of Memphis. They have Corky's all over the South, but I don't think they are nationwide. You can have Corky's FedEx'ed to you, and I would highly recommend that. Of course, I like the Memphis style of BBQ since that's where I grew up.

Famous Dave's has nothing on these little hole in the wall BBQ places here. Not stating anything groundbreaking, but usually the little dinky places seem to be where to go for the best food.

In my experience, Corky's has NOT been nearly as good as Famous Dave's was on my one visit there. Not even close...

Isn't it CRAZY how much DIFFERENT BBQ can be done from one place to another? We are about to go to lunch at "Dreamland" BBQ, which is known as "Alabama BBQ". The original location in Tuscaloosa, AL was destroyed by the tornado that hit there and traveled on to north Birmingham about 3 weeks ago. One thing that they are noted for is that when you get seated, they bring you a paper plate of "Wonderbread" and a side of their thin BBQ sauce served warm, and you dip the bread in the sauce and it soaks it up. I know this sounds strange, but the sauce warms up the bread, and since it is a thin vinegar based sauce it actually ends up working and tasting pretty good...

Well, I'll have to give Dave's another shot. I ate there once in CA and once in MD, and they both seemed pretty mediocre. I've been to Corky's in Gatlinburg and Tunica, and they seemed almost as good as the Corky's in Memphis, that I remember way back when. Of course, there are better places in Memphis than Corky's, but not by too far. Gridley's in Memphis was always a personal fav. I've been to Dreamland and agree that it rox. I did not know it got hit by that storm - that sux. I went to a backwoods place in NC once that was just like Dreamland - but damn if I can't remember the name of the joint or the town - but it was somewhat famous. I'll have to think on that one.

i dont care how many awards they have won, their bbq is mediocre at best. my wife was employed by a franchise owner and we got to eat there for free at any of his locations anytime we wanted for several years. chains almost never come close to the quality of small mom and pop operations that strive for consistency and quality and dont give a shit about winning some stupid awards. at the best bbqs in my experience the owner is also usually the pitmaster. at famous daves its usually some high school kid in the kitchen. the best meat is usually also found and butchered locally, not brought in frozen by semi.

papa johns for example also has a bunch of awards and their pizza is also mediocre at best.

Good point.

Papa Johns sucks.

Seriously. I don't get the supposed love affair with their pizza.

Only thing I tasted which differentiated it from other pizza of the same type was the sauce - and I didn't like it.

they dont make their dough fresh (it comes in on refrigerated trucks) and all their veggies are also trucked in. cheese is frozen and preshredded. any local place with fresh dough that gets their produce fresh and shreds their cheese daily would be better. papa johns is almost no different than dominos or pizza hut but its considerably more expensive. i would never pay full price for one of their pies.
