I have been at my present job for about four months, and while I have mentioned that I like arcade games, I haven't told anyone about my home arcade. I may in the future, but the opportunity hasn't come up. Also, I know at least one person there is on really tough financial times, and I don't want to seem like I'm flaunting anything. (People assume that these things cost more than they really do.) I'm know that people have scored deals by dropping info, but I'm all out of room anyway, and I'd rather not know of any deals at this point. :p

Do you guys spill the proverbial beans?

yeah when people brag about how they just bought a nes classic or a switch,,
i tell them i bought an entire arcade.

On the other hand...
if somebody brags about having more arcade machines.. i bring up the fact that i can sell
one of my antique cars and buy another room filled with machines

Then I tell vertex screw antique cars my phantom will buy 20 of your cars.

Yeah, I invite a lot of my co-workers to my arcade parties, so they're well aware of my arcade. I don't think any of them think I'm flaunting anything, except maybe my nerdiness (several co-workers drive new Teslas... I drive vehicles from last millenium).

Not only do I talk about my arcade games to my co-workers but I have a co-worker that used to have classic arcade games but had to sell them in the past but is now looking into buying some again. His favorite game- Burgertime. I was actually shocked to run into somebody at work who was a former collector and owned arcade games before.

So far it has only led me to stories of games someone used to have before they gave/threw it away.

Yes, it explains why I'm eating lunch at my desk because I'm reading up on somethingsomething for fixing or restoring them.

Hell, I bring them along on pickups. No, U actually do, lol.

But I hardly count as the masses, small office, warehouse environment.

Not really. If it comes up in normal conversation I'll talk about it but don't initiate the discussion. I figure most people don't want to hear about arcade games any more than I want to hear about their volleyball league.

Whenever I tell people at school they're like how are they not disintegrated with age? I say how have you existed on this planet for X years?

I work in a heavy corporate environment. I'm really not much of a heavy corporate kind of guy. I've told my coworkers about my arcade, and have hosted a party or two, but its not like I have them over daily to come and play. They know I occasionally take vacation time on short notice to go get a game, and they occasionally hear about me taking road trips over the weekends.

I also have some game stuff in my cube, kind of like hand sketches a prisoner would stick to their cell wall.

Yes, just in general conversation. My tech's keeps an eye out for leads for me, one time one of my customers called me when he found a golden tee in a dumpster. My manager really wants me to bring one in for the waiting room but I told him I like having everything at home, maybe if i get a double of something.

No, Not anymore because all they do is ask me about it every time they see me. It does get annoying after awhile.

Maybe I'm just becoming a Grinch in my older year. oh well.

I talk about it all the time. When guys ask if I watched some sports thing my answer is unusually No I was in my garage drinking beer and working on a arcade or pinball machine.
I try to find people that would have interest in the hobby maybe not to start collecting but at least to come and check it out either at my place or any local arcade bar that's around. When I show people pics of my garage most response's are always wow that's awesome.
A lot of my hobby is working on the games and pinball machines so when I tell people I collect arcades and stuff I also tell them a big part is working on them and all the different factors from electronics, cabinet restore and things there are a lot of skills involved, I tell them a few things like how most monitor chassis have to be rebuilt cause they are old and how doing it can bring back good color and most all can understand the hobby then quickly.

Yep, of course! I work at Cisco with a bunch of other video game geeks.

We currently have a MAME machine and a Fish Tales pin in our break room. For a while, I kept my Ice Cold Beer and a Frogger there.
