Just wondering as I always end up driving two hours to pick up games.
The seller of this particular machine wants considerably more than what its worth IMHO ($1700 for a DE WWF!)
If Im willing to pay say $800-$1000 for this title elsewhere, should I just pony up the extra cash that I would normally spend in ga$ to offer the guy $1200, or am I silly for even considering paying that much for a WWF?

I would wait 1700 for that pin is way high, offer him 900 and tell him if he changes his mind your offer stands. Can't tell you how many times I get a call a month later come get it its yours.
good luck

Yea I would be willing to spend a couple extra bucks for a local pick up, but that does seem high....heck I've had people across the US just restore a cab and then I ask to part out....like the above poster 2 weeks later and I get an e-mail lol

The problem I have is the actual time to travel for a pick up or trade. Matter of fact, Boilerman wanted to trade with me and it was going to be a win-win for both. Problem is he's 5 hours away and I have personally have no time to travel.

So, I suppose if it is closer, i would pay more cause it's worth my time.

I'm right there with you. The majority of the games I would pick up are a minimum of 1.5 hours away as that is how long it takes me to get to the St. Paul/Minneapolis area. With the family at home I hate leaving for that long because I'm already gone so much for work. Of the games I currently have, 2 were brought to me for a trade with smalltownguy2 and the third was about 10 minutes from my house. Previously I have picked up other games locally that I paid a little more than I would have liked due to the fact that they were local to me but there is definitely a limit to how much extra I will pay.

Agreed. I take the cost of gas and time that I saved into account and determine my limit.

If this is a reseller you've typically got a LOSING up-hill battle ahead of you.
If it's a joe blow then the best thing to do is educate them. Show them why you are offering the said amount.

In my experience, most people are likely to accept an offer if it is based on some sort of "so called" factual content.

I refuse to low ball someone or tire kick them to death. Hate it when it happens to me so why do it to some else right? Right.
If you show them you are offering fair market value that's pretty hard to argue.
Just might be a situation where they got hosed and they expect you to soak up their loss. those people make me giggle.

I dont beleive him to be a re seller, he most likely paid retail years ago not knowing any better. I did send him the link and kindly pointed out what machines like his (and mine for that matter) go for. I havent heard back and Im not holding my breath...
Too bad cause I NEVER find local deals...

Convenience is worth something, but given the price he's quoting, not THAT much.

I've tried educating folks a few times in the past; invariably they end up getting somebody equally clueless about the price who buys it at their asking price, which makes you just end up looking the fool - sometimes it's just a no-win situation.

It never hurts to make a polite counteroffer, and let them know that if they change their mind to keep your information handy - I know folks who've gotten some steals that way.

Personally, I wouldn't pay $700 for a WWF, but I don't like the theme either :)

You can ship a pin across the country for $200, you should expand your search and let someone else do the driving. Then just pick it up at your local terminal.

A lot depends on how bad you want it. If your worried about the price, make your offer and move on if the seller turns you down. I personally am willing to drive up to 10 hours round trip if I can find what I want cheap enough.

I had this too..this guy wanted like 650$ for an EM game. I liked it, and told asked him flat out how low he would go, pointed out the price point, told him what the average values where on the site..linked him. Showed him how far over he was, advised him that I thought halfway between what I wanted to pay and what he was asking was actually a fair price point, but I wasn't willing to pay more than 200-250 for it, because I want a machine for a re-theme project.

Emailed me back with a "Okay, thanks."

Didn't hear from him for 2-3 weeks, got an email back the other day "How about 350?" Course, this was a day after I'd bought the Supersonic, so I had to politely decline, but was a heck of a lot better price for a machine that has an average ebay price of 283$.

Problem is having a seller who's willing to package it up for shipping, and arrange to meet up with the shipper to have it picked up.

If I'm selling something, and I have plenty of locals who can just show up in a truck to pick it up themselves, I have zero incentive to sell to somebody halfway across the state/country if I have to wrap it up - even if they're going to pay for my time and materials... for cheap Craigslist deals, from an uninformed seller, I just don't see them wanting the hassle unless they get desperate, and nobody else is biting...

I'm the opposite... I will ship a machine allll day long if the buyer arranges/pays for it. If its a fair deal and I am compensated for my time, what do i care?! :)

If it was a trusted member of this or other forums I might think about shipping, but I font think I could buy a machine sight unseen from the general public...
