Anyone here have a backup machine to put in place of another machine that may breakdown unexpectedly like the arcade Op's used to do? I thought about this as I was reading another thread and thought that this may be a "must have" for most people here who have a medium size to large collection. I am thinking about getting a backup machine just in case something like this would occur as it kills me to have all my games working and one not. I figure, pick up something that has decent game play,is cheap, and will hold peoples attention without breaking the bank.

I have a few backup boards and an extra monitor... that's it.

Of course, my "collection" is a bit of a joke compared to many on KLOV...

What!! Your crazy man. Five games is a good number of games,to most that's allot of games when it comes to them being in a home environment. The first month into the hobby I had 6 games and thought I was ballin outta control. lol

I have a garage full of back up games but I'm generally too lazy to haul the broken game from in the house to the garage and the replacement game in. I just fix the broken game.

After seeing what folks like djdns and Pinball Wizard have, I thought I was the odd man out. ;)

i too don't have many games, 0 extra monitors (but i have an extra tube/frame and chassis so i guess that counts), but i have 2-3 of some boards just incase something happens to one of my faves. I have been thinking of cutting it back to just 1 spare...

Nope... I've got a couple in the garage, but I'd never go through the hassle of moving one down in the case that one of the basement games stopped working. If a game goes down during a party... oh well, I'll just turn it off and fix it later.

Agreed.

And I have a few not down in the basement but I'd classify those as "overstock". :)

I have spare boards for my stv with spare die hard carts as well as a spare power supply, wiring harness, control panel, and marquee. I also have a box of extra buttons, switches, and joysticks.

At some point I could see myself getting a spare 25 inch screen if I came across a good deal on one.

I don't have a basement. :(

Normally, if a game in the gameroom breaks close to a party, then it stays broken during the party. If it breaks a month+ before, and it'll be a while before I can fix it (complicated repair), then I may pull it and grab one of the working ones from the garage.

In the most recent case, my Lethal Enforcers developed a board issue. So - I threw in an Area 51: Site 4 board, made a modification so the sound would work, and swapped out the marquee. I've since gotten my LE board replaced, and it's back to being an LE again - and I decided it took up too much space in the game room so now it's for sale...

Well, I have "backup" machines because I don't have enough room in the house, and most are projects. Projects that don't get much attention, because I have no place to put them currently :(

many many backup machines, boards and monitors.

just in case one i want for a big party like MAGfest goes down.
i can't have a dead machine i own down during a party it drives me nuts.

so for me YES it a must.

Peace

I have two 60 in 1's in my living room. The one I had was getting swarmed during my Stewie Griffin style "Sexy" parties; and I needed another.

+1 I'm still in my first month... 7 Cabs 14PCB's and counting. Wife is going to kick me out soon! Now I'm on the hunt for spare parts ;) and a cocktail cabinet.

Haha, there are many factors that led me to my huge man castle, but yes it is the odd man out there.

I wish my gameroom was at the point of needing backup games, but alas, still way too much non-working games. I do have extra boardsets on the shelf that I could drop in a few of my games, and I've got monitors that have minor issues I could put in a game if the monitor completely went out. Not that I like have a dead game, it does have part of the feel of a classic arcade. Even BITD not everything was working all the time, even if it was a coin-mech that was eating coins.

I have a few. Especially if you count cocktail versions.

Right now, I have a spare UR Joust, a spare UR Robotron, a spare UR Mystic Marathon, many spare boardsets and a Bubbles cocktail and a Stargate cocktail (plus their UR big brothers).
