Do you have a multi among your cabs?

IMG_0382.jpegOld photo. Have (3) JAMMA Japanese Candy Cabs - (2) Egret 2's and a Sega Astrocity 2.

Run original JAMMA and Non-JAMMA pcbs via adapters. Have roughly (90) PCBs and a Mistercade, so can pretty much play most games… Sure would be nice to have space for 130+ dedicated machines, but sadly do not. Having these (3) workhorses is how I can get my fix for other games like Joust, Donkey Kong, etc.

I turned my KI2 cabinet into a MAME cabinet years ago and couldn't have been happier.

I recently turned my Maximum Force cabinet with an 8 way switcher in it (including 1 external port so I could change games without going inside the cab) into a light gun emulation cabinet.

And my final 2 cabinets are Rush 2049 SE cabinets and the hardware to turn them into emulation cabinets was shipped from France to me today. So that will soon be 2 linked racing cabinets that can basically play any racing game, modern or retro.

After that, I'll have no "original" cabinets but don't care because instead of being to play only a handful of games and the same racing game over and over, I'll have a huge variety to play instead.

And they will just work - I won't have to tinker with anything.

Currently, with the exception of my Tempest FPGA, all of my multi are kits running on original hardware. I have a few multi PCBs, but none are installed.

I have a couple.

Working:
A Star Wars upright cab with Jason's Vector wars board in it.
A Global VR PC based 240 game setup in a repro Sente cab

Projects:
Working on a salvaged Space Duel cab that has Jason's SD/BW/Gravitar board in it.
Working on a repro cabaret Tempest that has Jason's Tempest multi and spinner in it.
Working on a USBDVG that will go into a repro cabaret cab

Soon. I'm converting a poker cabinet to jamma, have a BitKit 2 and a Revenge of Doh PCB. I'll swap control panels and the monitor will rotate.

I gave up on the CRT after I broke the neckboard twice. LCD is better for allowing the swivel anyway. And people care a lot less about a jamma cab having an LCD.

After getting this totally working with ROD, I'll finish the Tapper control panel build.

My only other multi is a Missile Command high score save kit with a couple games. I never use that.

Don't judge me too harshly, but because I cannot own all the Vectors, I do have a Zektor ZVG w/ VectorMAME in a Gravitar cab to give me access to most. It works quite well and was a fun task putting it all together.
poor video frame to vector conversion, arcade 1up level lag, low resolution due to the 8 bit port, thousands of colors reduced to 3, crazy ever changing flicker, missing position data which causes jumpy vectors, most audio is off, unstable game clock. The USB DVG /vsct is not much better. don't get me wrong the idea is really cool i had one and enjoyed it myself. but i would not say it works well by any standards.
not judging friendly disagreement.

i have several multis among several cabs but i also keep the original working pcbs inside the cabinets

Seriously thinking of getting this board for my SD cocktail....if I can find an elegant solution for keeping the original board in place and perhaps having some standoffs for the new board.....it's definitely on my list, would definitely add a couple of games to the lineup with my limited space(any games currently in the lineup I would disable on the board)...only have room to squeeze in a couple more and a pin....IMO if you keep the hardware original with no modifications to the game and just have an extra board that's OK for my game standards.....just from time to time will run the original game pcb to keep it healthy

Klax upright cabs can be had pretty cheap as people tend to opt for the cabarets, but the upright is the ultimate platform for puzzle type games. it's a very approachable game for outsiders that are not totally into arcade games during parties. Quick mini games that are easy to learn and hard to master.

Installed a 4-Way RiddledTV switcher and jumpered the inner buttons for game switching - now have with the following games:
  • Klax
  • Tetris
  • Sega Bloxeed PCB with C2 Multi System (14in1)
    • Bloxeed
    • Borench
    • Columns
    • Columns II
    • Ichidant-R
    • Poto Poto
    • Puyo Puyo
    • Puyo Puyo 2
    • Ribbit! (Frogger 2)
    • Stack Columns
    • Tant-R
    • Thunder Force AC
    • Twin Squash
    • Zunzunkyou no yabou
  • BitKit2 (Horizontal Games)
The Japanese games on the C2 multi are super fun to play, if you haven't heard of these titles - you're missing out. Sometimes I even use it as a Jamma rig since the control panel is a super convenient front drawer pull-out style to access boards. Below is a pic before touch up and new marquee/CPO from Olly @ Arcareartshop.

In my Donkey Kong, I have a VL switcher with a Donkey Kong board (and Remix), a Donkey Kong Junior board (and Remix), and a Donkey Kong 3 board.

Pac-Man cabaret has the HSS kit with Pac, Ms. Pac, Pac Plus, speed Pacs, and Pengo.

Tempest cabaret has the HSS kit with Tempest Tubes.

Centipede cabaret has a Millipede board with the HSS kit that includes Centipede.

Tron cabaret has the HSS kit that has Tron and Satan's Hollow.

Galaga cabaret has a Riddle switcher that switches between my Galaga board, my Mappy board, and my Galaxian board.

Space Invaders Trimline has the HSS kit that has SI, SI Deluxe, and some others.

Asteroids Deluxe cabaret has an Asteroids board in it with the HSS kit in it that plays Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, and Lunar Lander. I have an Asteroids board in it, because the DLX kit has the sounds wrong.

Missile Command cabaret has the original MC board HSS kit with Super Missile Attack in it.

Wizard of Wor has the Roby Roto multi kit in it.

Cheers!
Jason

Finally, built this kit cab, added speakers and a TV plus an X Arcade tank stick.
This is powered by an original XBox running Coinops 6 which has everything from console games to a full library of arcade titles.

Early in my arcade hobbyist days (like, 2016) I had a dedicated MAME PC machine from Rec Room Masters. Sold that a few years ago, now my most multi multi is my SF2CE Big Blue with a Mistercade. You can play quite a lot of 90s games with that configuration. I also have the SNAX adapters for NES and SNES so I can play some classic console games on it with original controllers too. Get my Duck Hunt fix that way :)

I have various other multi game solutions in my other machines, but most are limited to adding a handful (maybe 2-20) additional games that match well to that cabinet style, control setup, monitor type, etc.
