Do any of Y'all go out to local arcades? I know some of you guys have amazing personal game rooms/arcades but do you go out and interact with other people in a commercial arcade?

Local is a relative term. About 45 minutes to an hour in either direction to get to anything but a Chuck E Cheese. I go to them a few times per year.

Yes, I try to hit some of the local barcades from time-to-time.

the prob in most cases are ,, there are no more places to go.

so we re create one in out basements instead.

Most of the arcades I enjoyed, are now long gone. Even the ones from the 90s.

There are a few local arcades/barcades I like going to, but each have their pros and cons.

The ones where you pay admission, usually have a great line-up of games, although it's a drag when you got 'comic book store guy from the Simpsons' camping out on your favorite pinball machine.

Despite having mostly redemption games, I do like the pinball selection at the mall arcade, but those charge cards can be pricey.

The barcade is great for a mixed selection of 80s and 90s classics, but can be crowded, especially on the weekends.

Ultimately, home is the place to be! Or a friend's house where the games are mostly different from my own.

I used to frequent 2084 Arcade when it was still around, but since then I've not gone out to too many arcades. I'm just too disillusioned by all the machines out there that are in need of simple fixes that the operators just refuse to do and the abundance of redemption machines over games. Oh well, what can you do?

I do and I almost never travel to another city without first checking out if there are any arcades in the area.

I travel a lot for work doing trade shows and whatnot and try to go to an arcade or go play pinball at least once in every city I got to.

wish I had one local I could go to..

when I lived in brooklyn I could walk to the original barcade and went all the time, great place to have a few good beers and play some games for a few hours when its not crowded.

Probably the main reason I ended up collecting the damn things after I moved.

Nothin here. A movie theater here does have a Game of Thrones pin I'll hit up if I'm there to see a movie. Best I can do is go somewhere on out-of town trips.

I am not sure, its kind of hard to interact with the general public in arcades, if you went with a few friends yeah, I can see some interaction. But interacting with the general public, probably no. I have probably had one interaction that involved playing a game with another random person in an actual arcade in the 15+ years I have been here and yes I can remember that one and it was a long long time ago, I think we played a shooter in the 1945 series, I don't remember exactly which one. Friends that is different, I used to play Defender with this guy in my university, there was a defender machine and a bunch of other games on campus, good games too.

The only places near me are Dave & Busters and Chuck E Cheese style arcades unless you count the pinball hall which is kinda far away and a place I do not get to go very often. You can't really interact with the general public in those places.

I do try to interact with the staff at every arcade I go to, especially if its not busy, it seems 100% of the time I run into very passionate people who love arcade games even in the arcades where you don't necessarily expect to run into those who are passionate about arcade games, and honestly this is not what I expect but its nice to see!

ah ... i failed to mention, and to OP's credit ...

without the social aspect (in whatever form that can take), there is no true classic arcade experience!

Not necessarily. If theres a spot open on a game like TMNT, Simpsons, Rampage or whatever, most people are pretty cool if you jump in on a game with them.

we used to practically beg everyone walking by us playing the 6-player X-men to join us.

it is a truly unique arcade experience to play with ALL 6 characters in simultaneous play ... raw, pure, chaotic beat-em-up melee action across TWO 25" CRTs. truly glorious.

some perchance would even call it ... quintessent ...
