Do you correct non arcade game owners?

You're killling me Mark!

I did misspell TYE-toh. But it's still a long-i sound. And I'm pretty sure there's only 1 "t" in there. :ROFLMAO:

I just had a thought. I have a baseball game tonight and there are 5 native Japanese speakers (1st language) on my team. Ages range from early 40's to late 50's. So I think it's the right demographic. I'll ask each one for permission to record his pronunciation of "Taito". Perhaps I can get both the stand alone word and the word as used in a (Japanese) sentence. Then I'll go home, watch Star Trek, and totally forget to share my findings with KLOV.

Ok, the Jury is in. It's TAH-ee-toh for the win!

I typed the word on my phone then asked 3 Japanese team mates and 2 non-native fluent speakers. I approached each one separately and asked them to pronounce the word on the screen and every one said the same thing: TAH-ee-toh.

Except Toshi. He started with "Is that the video game company? TAH-ee-toh." :ROFLMAO: He then volunteered Namco (NAH-moo-go) and Koei Tecmo (KO-eh Teh-ku-moh). That last one really sounded like one word although I've written as 2 words. He also mentioned Square Enix, but I don't remember how he pronounced it.

I forgot to ask if he's on KLOV. 🤷‍♂️

Found this too:

And this (super weird) one:

For 99% of the population video games are console games or phone games. Often one cannot describe an arcade style video game (or whatever is acceptable to everyone) as only a video game. If people want to shorten arcade games to arcades, whatever. The human mind is great at working out context.

I haven't searched but have we discussed the domain name for this website? Does it bother you everytime you enter the site.
This is exactly my thoughts on using the word "arcade" as a shortened version of "arcade video game". It's all context.

But it's also my pet peeve regarding "Arcade 1ups", as those machines were never in actual arcades nor can they accept money per play, therefor should not be called arcades at all. That's a different battle though

I absolutely agree with the hatred of people calling them Arcades.
It also annoying to me when people refer to the "cab" of their "arcade".
The word is cabinet. Spend the extra time and don't forget the "-inet"

It was kind of hard not to when someone plugged their Japanese monitor into a wall outlet once though. Real wise move.
Techically, you can on Japanese Nanao candy cab monitors, since they have their own power supply. (I'm assuming you're referring to Nintendo Sanyo 20EZs? ;)

The later ones yeah, but the early NANAOs (MC2000-S) will blow up.

Any early 80s monitors I listed below have been known to use AC cords, and when plugged into the wall, you will destroy them;
Matsushita, Sega 96 Series, Chung Hwa, Toei, NEC, Hitachi, Sanwa, NANAO, Kaga Denshi, and of course Sanyo.

Later monitors into the 1990s can run using mains voltage unisolated, but nothing I found from the early 80s can.

Not the first time someone has called me hilarious and infuriating. Glad your got a chuckle.

Every time I see anything related to Robotron I laugh. Who knew some throw away comment like that would undo 40 years of calling it by name properly? What's infuriating is I can't NOT call it Robot Ron now. LOLOL
