Do They Still Make CRT Tubes in China ?

Yes, I believe they still do.

If they do , why doesn't a company like ArcadeShop import 19 inch tubes , slap on a universal chassis and start selling new monitors ?

Wouldn't they make some good money being the only place with new crt arcade monitors ?

There are so many tubes already in TVs out there in great shape just waiting to get swapped into a arcade chassis.

Yes..but you have to hunt them down in second hand stores or on CL. It would be way easier to purchase one online and have it sent to your door. ;)

I wish converging a bare tube wasn't such a nightmare. I've tried two brand-new tubes so far and couldn't get close enough on them. Need a convergence bot. :) Or need to find someone that did this back in the day to teach me.

+1 I think I'll master Tai Chi before I master tube convergence.

I thought that site comes up everytime someone talks about this, but that there were serious issues with their monitors or something?

If it's the place that I think it is, you don't want their chassis. . is crappy.

The tubes are probably fine though, although I've tried to converge two and couldn't get there even with the help of a ton of other folks that have done this successfully before.

I'd love to hear experiences about getting these tubes converged.

Were they converged by hand in the old days or did they have some kind of machines?

If they were in fact done by hand once that means they can be done again, it's just a matter of finding out how.

Don't you just display a convergence image on the screen and tune it in? I had to do a VGA monitor once that someone had wildly moved the rings on and that is what I did.

I was thinking of this the other night.

Why not find tubes that match the 19" arcade monitors and maybe even the other sizes like 13", get a bunch (maybe they will have yokes built in, I am aware that some yokes differ in resistance) and swap them?

The only problem I had with buying 19" TV's was that the neckboard connector never matched and sometimes it wasn't even close to a tube match being the curvature of the screen wasn't the same or didn't fit the frame. Maybe I'm just buying the wrong TVs...

The misconception that most seem to have is that you can use an arcade chassis and yoke on any tube with the right pinout. However, the yoke and the gun need to be compatible with each other otherwise you won't be successful converging it no matter how hard you try. Different model tubes have different gun geometries.

If anyone doubts me, I got confirmation from none other than Scotty of Hawkeye Picture Tubes.

Even then, if you try to do a full yoke swap, it still doesn't always work. I've tried 2 tube swaps, including swapping the yoke, and still couldn't get them to work. There are many members around here that have done multiple tube swaps and sell 19" monitors with rebuilt chassis all the time. If you really are in need of one, local413 always seems to have ones for sale with no burn and rebuilt chassis.

It was really easy for me. Turned out great.

Assuming the tube and yoke are a match, and the tube isn't defective, that is true. Until I see one of these new tubes properly converged, I'm not optimistic that they are good.

Yes, that's what you do. Only problem is that with these tubes, I can spend 20 hours screwing with the rings and never get there.
