Do The Simpsons & TMNT use the same wiring harness?

I've had a fully working 4 player TMNT board for a while and I just picked up a Simpsons video game at the last SuperAuctions. I finally got the Simpsons in the house last night and while adjusting things was struck by how similar the boards are and was wondering if they really were compatible.

I pulled the TMNT manual and checked it against The Simpsons manual I found on the bottom of the cabinet (bonus!) and they look the same.

Can it really be as simple as unplugging the main JAMMA edge connector and the two extra player control plugs and then plugging them into the TMNT board? I mean that is just way too easy.

Has anybody tried one of the 2 way JAMMA harnesses with these games? I realize that I will probably have to do the diode thing on the extra player controls, but has anybody here done this?

Thanks.

Well of course they're both JAMMA so that's no big deal so what it would come down to is how the player 3 and 4 harnesses are wired. If those connectors are wired the same according to the manuals you'd be all set. One thing that might be an issue is sound. If your Simpsons cabinet is an original, it should have stereo sound which is wired to a 4 pin connector on the pcb. TMNT is only a mono game so you'd have to maybe change the Simpsons speaker wiring.

Just received the manual for my 4 player Wrestlefest, in the back it has it's suggested cabinet conversions:
4 Player
-Gauntlet
-Main Event
-Crime Fighters
-Dark Adventure
-TMNT
-Simpsons
-Desert Assault
-Others...

3 Player
-Rampage
-Xenophobe
-Mercs
-Moonwalker
-Others....

Thanks everybody. I will pull the cabinet later and check on the speakers. If that is the only glitch, I think I can work that out.

I'm not sure why the Wrestlefest manual would suggest converting TMNT or Simpsons to Wrestlefest, it wouldn't work. Wrestlefest requires a Start button to start gameplay and use credits for additional health.

The Konami cabinets don't have a Start button. That's not to say you couldn't modify the cabinet and add one, as I am currently trying to do with my Sunset Riders cabinet, but as it stands, without physically switching out the entire control panel, the Konami PCBs are only interchangeable with one another (and that's not even entirely true since X-Men requires 3 buttons, the rest of the games only have two).

Tmnt no sound w simpsons harness

I have a dedicated simpsons and the sound on my tmnt won't work in the cab...it's pretty annoying. I never played with it so I just turn on the radio while I play. I also plugged a wrestelfest into the same harness and it plays upside down w no sound...the upside down thing I'd probably just a dip switch on the board. Didn't play with that much either.

Let me know how it works out...I may just get enough determination to fix this cab.

On a related note:

Is Turtles In Time interchangeable with TMNT?
If you were thinking of playing a Turtles in Time board in a TMNT cabinet that should work fine because TMNT should be wired for mono sound and Turtles in Time will just output mono sound off the JAMMA harness. Now if you had a Turtles in Time cab running stereo sound off that 4 pin connector like the Simpsons, you'd run into the same problem of not having sound due to the cabinet being wired for stereo and not the JAMMA mono. I'm pretty sure Turtles In Time has that same stereo output connector as many Konami games of that era did.

I swap TMNT, Turtles in Time, Sunset Riders, and X-Men in and out of my Sunset Riders cabinet all the time and never have problems with Sound. Turtles in Time can be switched to Mono sound from the Dipswitch Menu.

Sunset Riders is a stereo cabinet though?

So basically all you have to do is flip the dip switch for mono sound and all of the boards will work in any 4p konami?

did anyone have a fix for this?

i'm kinda getting concerned since the simpson cabs has a separate wire for sound.

I've never dealt with this though it would be nice because I could swap my TMNT pcb into my Simpsons cab. In the past my thought has always been to just add additional wiring to the JAMMA harness for mono sound and run it to one of the two speakers. Now the only question is how would Simpsons pcb handle having the stereo connector hooked up and the mono wires in the JAMMA harness. I don't know if it would cause any kind of issue or not but I suppose worse case would be to leave the stereo unplugged and run everything in mono.

i wonder if the simpsons arcade pcb outputs to mono on the edge connector? [if you leave the other plug out]

So like you said "additional wiring to the JAMMA harness for mono sound" would make a perfect fix.

maybe someone here did something similar.
