So, I just had delivered Marble Madness. I am terrible at Marbles Madness, but luckily, Cerny put the high score table so low that I was still able to break into the default table. This is why Mark Cerny is a genius. (Well, among other things.)

Are System 1 games supposed to save scores? Mine doesn't. Is there a kit for that? I would have checked here and rgvac, but "system" and "1" are tough search terms. It's like when the game "Driver" came out when computer games didn't work unless you were constantly updating your graphics drivers. :/

I found this on rgvac after all:

http://groups.google.com/group/rec....db58db946a2e89/74cbb612d2a7145a?hl=en&lnk=gst

" The System I mainboard has a 2804 EEPROM for setup data and high score saves, which only supports a limited number of write cycles - the current production version of the part supports 10000 write cycles, so it's important to limit the number of writes done to the part."

So I guess I gotta check my main board.

Just to clarify, we're talking about a Xicor X2804, which can be hard to find. In most of these games you can substitute the higher density X2816 (which you may be able to find a bit cheaper). I sold all I had to some folks on here a while back.

Good Google Groups search work there.

But if you'll just go a couple of forum down the list here at KLOV, you'll find this thread (just today) in the Repair forum:

Ha! Thanks, Darren. That's good info.

Matt, I added you and your high score kit to the Gyruss page on Wikipedia the other day. (This has nothing to do with System 1 save games, but I wanted to mention it.) I hope the record shows your outstanding work on high score save projects decades from now. I have to watch to make sure none of the retard Wikipedia admins delete it, but I think we're safe.

So folks, anyone got these???

System I Hi-Score

It's funny I was playing a game of Peter Pack Rat today wishing it would save hi-scores and then I see this thread, how timely.

Just to confirm replace the 2804 EEPROM on the main board, my only question, since its on the main board any idea what happens when you switch out to another game - I assume you lose the data.

Thanks
Greg
