Do people ever try and make you feel embarassed about owning games?

Most are amazed when they see my games. The only one who doesn't get them is my wife. Hell, my mom even likes them and has even rode along with me on a few game pick ups.

No, never!

I would say only a close minded idiot would do this, or make comments.

You know, most people actually seem to understand the games. They think those are cool. It's the *computers* that people give me a hard time about. You see, I collect old computers too, and have several very large "minicomputers" from the 80's - machines that weigh hundreds of pounds and take up more space than an arcade game. I get the question "What do you *do* with them?" quite often. They don't understand the fun of running these old machines, making them work, making them do something interesting... if it's not some flashy cell phone most people don't care about technology.

Explaining arcade games is cake compared to explaining vintage action figure prototypes ;).

Nah, definitely not that bad but I see what you mean.

Honestly, a lot has to do with the personality behind the collection rather than the fact of collecting. You think anyone is going to call an NBA star or a successful hedge-fund manager a nerd because they have a game room full of mint arcade games?

Thanks for all the replies. It is nice to know there are other people out there that share a common interest even if we are in a major minority!

Same here...

Pretty much similar to everyone else... I just got my first 3 games recently, but before that, the video games were a plenty. I have about every nintendo system made, a PS3, the kids each have a DS, and me a PS3, among other games. I know others thinks it's crazy, with the exception of my brothers and friends who grew up with that.

I get the "grow up" look from lots of others (I'm 36) but have for years. Now that I have arcade games, some people said "You're crazy" originally, but they came around. They're down there right now. :)
