Do NOS Willis overlays detract from value?

I am wondering if replacing a torn and worn out original CPO with a NOS Willis overlay is really a step backwards? What would you do? Which would you prefer? Keep the trashed original, or go for the NOS Willis? I'll get to my point later.

It depends on how bad the original is trashed, and which Willis CPO you're talking about. Some are much worse than others.

I agree with that... I'm considering a putting a Willis CPO on my Qix... While the Willis Qix overlay is very generic/boring, it might be good enough.

What game are you considering a Willis CPO for?

Well, I did one on my Pole Position II, and it looks pretty sweet, sweeter than the original if you ask me. The next one I am considering is Joust. I have an extra fully populated CP and a Willis Joust CPO that's been kicking around the shop. The original overlay on the CP is trashed and mostly removed.

I can't even believe you posted this crap... Turn in your KLOV card!

You need to relax. Enuff with the fake 'serious collector' blanket statements. When you have the parts, and they theoretically are made for eachother, why not combine and/or use them? Willis reproes are part of the history of the arcade scene, like it or not. BTB, if there *was* a 'KLOV card', I woulda shredded mine years ago along with your face.

I don't know who I want to punch more sometimes when I read your threads...you or Endrien

I generally HATE willis CPOs. I've seen a few that were OK. If I had to choose, I'd probably slap the willis on there with the intention to get an original at some point down the road, especially on a Joust.

Which Joust CPO is it? There are two that are commonly refered to as Willis for Joust, although one may not be.

This one. I don't know if I wanna shell out another $50 shipped, as I am not even going to be using the CP, I am gonna sell it as a whole. I am just wondering if it would be easier to sell complete/ plug n play with a Willis CPO installed, or stripped bare/ fully populated, needs woodwork and an overlay.

What a tough guy. I'm scared now. Yes, put the Willis CPO on. Just dont hurt anyone, please.

I kinda dig the one with the fire and the ostriches. Look at it this way--if someone really wants one in the original style, they can always spend an afternoon and swap in one from Arcadeshop. I see it as kinda fun, different, and like you said, something that you *might* have seen back in the day.

There are some nice ones in there, and there are some horrible ones (Qbert, Pac)

The Willis Asteroids Deluxe #2 is a nicely done one:

The pac ones however, yuk:

If your just going to flip the game, then I would do all the prep and install the willis overlay. Many folks won't have a clue and if someone really cares about it, they can do it themselves for the $50. I wouldn't do the bare CPO that needs work though.

My $.02

While that Ostrich does look hardcore, I would pay slightly more for one with an original looking CPO.
