I've been interested in getting into the pinball scene, but the pricing on most of the better games is a little inhibiting. If I'm going to drop $2K+ on one of the more desired games, is it likely to appreciate over time?

The good ones will.

If you're going to get started in the pin side, I'd suggest getting a mid 80's Solid State pin first. Cut your teeth there, and after much learning, you'll get a feel for what you want.

If you have somewhere you can go to try a bunch of pins, that would help.

yes and no - my opinion is that they're not investments that go up in value (don't expect to double your money), but they're investements that hold up their value pretty well..
of all toys you can buy they don't only give you fun but with some luck you don't make a loss when selling them and get at least your money back

that being said - most prices still seem to (slowly) increase, esp. of games in excellent condition, new collectors still join this hobby every day

think i'm going to be buried in my GENIE

dont want to spend eternity laying with the transformer assembly smack dab in the middle of my back, so i will have to mount it on the side of the cab and rewire it

way cheaper than a casket so i think ill be way ahead in the long run

the egyptians were buried with a boat for the journey, i'd rather be playing pinball

heh

you see the prices of the MEDIEVAL MADNESS lately ?
holy smokes the prices are up there. inflation ? i dont know

There were two for sale here in Dallas a month or so ago...IIRC the guy was asking 8k a piece for them. I've never played it, but I have a hard time seeing any single pin being worth that much for more than anything than collecting/preservation's sake. I'd rather have one good new-ish (LOTR, christ..) pin and a few older ones for that price. Esh.

It depends on the game title. Most of the games I own have more than doubled in value based on what I paid. If you buy smart and know which titles to buy you can make a good investment.
