I was contemplating doing a build, and didn't want to mess with a disc-player. I've been through that before and had all kinds of problems. Thanks for ant help.
Don't know of any boards with it built in and can't imagine anyone doing it with the size of the animation files, but you can do it with more modern and reliable hardware with a Daphne setup.
I should have one of these finished up in an original Dragon's Lair cabinet in about a week. It's un-converted from a Rygar and had none of the original parts, so it was cheaper and easier than trying to hunt down the original parts. Should be more reliable for longer than the original stuff too.
Yes and no. There is a multi board made for Dragon's Lair and Space Ace hardware that lets you play both in the same cabinet. There is also the Daphne set-up previously mentioned that allows for an original laserdisc or the laserdisc images to be used. Lastly, there is a project called Dexter that is meant to replace some of the original hardware, including the game PCB and laserdisc player (haven't seen an update in a few months and believe it is still in alpha).
Keep in mind, there are also add on cards that allow use of newer laserdisc players from Pioneer and Sony. I may be mistaken, but believe the LaserCon is the only conversion card still on the market. Checkout Shaun Wood's web site or www.d-l-p.com for more info.
