For those who have seen my post from a few months back I have made a little progress on my first pin. I discovered that a few fuses were garbage so I replaced them. I now have lights on my supercharger!

Now for the DMD... I have yet to find anyone with a Williams pin near me so I can check and see if it's the DMD board or display but I do have a question beyond that.

During game play, when it comes to a part in the game where you need to play a mini game on the DMD display would I still hear all the audio for the DMD game even though the screen itself doesn't work? If I don't hear any extra stuff goin on that might be related to the dmd mini-game then do you think it might be a good sign of a board problem?

With the display out, you would still hear sounds. Audio is generated on the sound board, display graphics are generated on the DMD controller board. Both boards do their thing independant of each other, with the only common factor being the CPU board which sends out commands to the boards telling them to "play sound x" or "run animation x".

I can't think of a situation where an entire video mode (DMD mini-game) would be non-functional without some serious issues within the machine, which would also likely render the whole machine non-playable.

I'd suggest getting that DMD sorted out first and going from there. Did you have the chance to test the voltages going into the DMD? Try reseating the ribbon cable between the CPU and DMD controller board and the smaller ribbon from the controller to the DMD? If the voltages are good and the cables check out, it's probably the DMD itself. Problems in the logic section of the controller board are not very common.

I did re-seat the connections already for the board earlier. It's probably the DMD display. The machine plays fine and has what I believe is full sound.

I'll have t get a new DMD most likely.

thanks for the input.

Just a quick update.

I just finally got around to playing some games on the pin after replacing the fuse a month ago.

It turns out that it fixed the lights in the supercharger as well as the beacon on top!
It makes the game play 10x cooler!

Once when I was playing it while in multiball with the beacon going and the superchagrer going the game just shut off on me. Any clue what might have caused that? It started right up again but after that the machine never seemed to want to give me multiball. Hmm...

When you said the game shut off, did it shut off and come right back on like you flipped the power switch off and on?

Game resets are not an uncommon thing with WPC based machines. The good news is that the issue and it's causes and common fixes are very well documented. Read here for all you need to know to solve this problem: http://www.pinrepair.com/wpc/index2.htm#reset
