Ok, so I have really nice Dragons Lair 2 cabinet. I replaced the LD player with a known working player. I just now replaced the board and cable with known working parts from Kyle. Im still having trouble!! It powers up, all the lights are on, the monitor comes up and it goes through the still screens of the laser disc as well as the intro animation. After that it just sits there on the title screen. If I press the service button and play one or sword I cannot get in to the service mode.

Anyone have any suggestions? I really want to play this game!

Thanks.

try looking over the site: Dragonslairproject.com

I have read where the type of disk you have and disk player can cause several issues.

Wiring..

Sounds like a bad null modem cable or your button wiring is off...my guess would be its the cable that communicates from the LD player to the main board...this cable could be shot or something...you can build another one if you need too...I think you can find the pinouts and such online...

They can probably help...

Good Luck!

DL2 had 2 pressings of the disc. The ROM version on the board has to match the disc version. Also depending on the ROM version determines how you enter into the service mode but I don't remember the 2 different ways. It sounds like your LD player is not communicating with the board. This could be the ROM /disc miss match, Laser disc player Baud rate dip switches set wrong, bad LD player , bad board or a bad or wrong null modem cable. A stock IBM computer null modem cable will not work.

The DL2 laserdisc has player stop codes encoded into the disc, and it will stop the LDP-1450 player when it gets to the end of each scene, including the intro.

Are you getting the "INSERT COIN(S)" message overlay during the intro in white? If not, I'd say the board is still not communicating with the player. Double check the ribbon cable.

Check the dip switches on the player itself next to the RS-232 port are set correctly. 9600 is the correct BAUD setting, the dips should be down, down, down, up.

Thanks for all the info.

I do have a working LDP-1450 in there and have both rev's of the disc. I do not see any lettering when it gets to the title screen. Ill couple check the baud rate as well as the connection between the board and the player.

Swapped the LDP cable for a rusty old junky one I didn't think worked. Bought it, a board, and a disc off of another klover that found an extremely water damaged dl2 in a building. Fired right up. Put it all back together and just played a few games. Hard as balls.

Thanks for your help everyone. I'm super excited to play this as I never saw it in the wild.
