I picked up a sweet Dragons Lair from DJ DNS a few weeks ago but cant get past damn first board! After dying twice it automatically puts you inside the castle and after that I am close to getting to the end of the game. Its just a pain since its like starting with only 3 guys. Ive looked around to see what the moves are and seem to be doing them but it just keeps killing me.

After falling through the bridge hit sword to ward off the creatures. Then up to climb up on the bridge. Then I get squished by the creature.

What am I doing wrong?

Jesus, Im stupid. Its sword, up, then right to go through the gate. This is going to be a bit easier actually having 5 guys.

Thanks for the pointer.

also check out dragons-lair-project.com, it's filled with laser game freaks who can share additional tips/tricks. There's even some enhanced ROMS that will add to the gameplay (a little).

I've never seen a regular arcade DL do anything on the drawbridge. Dirk runs right into the castle and the first board is either the fire ropes or closing wall.

I'm just the opposite..evey DL I ever played BITD you had to deal with the drawbridge.

From what he is describing regarding the drawbridge scene, he DOES have the enhanced ROMs in his machine.

Correct. This is the behavior of a standard US Dragon's Lair machine, with Rev A thru F2 ROMs.

I'm pretty sure I remember having to beat that scene...and I live in the Southeast US. In fact I remember because I used to use class time in middle school writing out the moves to DL and Cliff Hanger.

Who are you, some sort of laser game nerd?! Whatevs!

It's probably important to recognize at this point in the thread, all that Jeff has contributed to the preservation of laser disc games :)

He is a knight among men! and a first class laser game nerd :) If not for his site: http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/ myself and many others would be lost in our efforts towards resurrecting this genre of arcade games.

Mad props to Jeff!

Well thank you, Mike!! I'm glad the D-L-P was a help to you and your quest! :)

Very interesting. Are you 100% sure, though? Many of us have looked high and low for a US ROM revision that played the drawbridge scene, but none play it. The only possible chance of the drawbridge scene being played was perhaps prototype revision ROMs, but none have ever been found. However, a few different prototype laser discs have surfaced, so we know there were prototype ROMs at one time, but these discs only contained about half of the anaimation of the original game.
