I finally was able to move the old girl into the house for sticker application. This has been a lot of work. Started with a rotten cab missing part of the base, wrong coindoor, wrong color, 2 huge vs. stickers(fully intact) lot of wood filler and alot of paint. Made a new backdoor, accumulated all the parts from all over:

Thanks Roadrunner, she's not museum quality yet, but more of an extremely polished turd. Here is a close up of before and after:

What's up w/ the midway door on the vs. cabinet? Did they fill the hole and put the small door on? Or replace the front panel.

They did both Bill. They replaced the whole front panel with a thicker plywood, put black counter laminate over that, after piecing another piece of plywood in the bottom of the Nintendo coindoor hole, for installation of the Midway type coindoor which was half as tall. There were two little pieces of plywood holding the hole filler in place from the inside. the bottom of the front panel was missing, so I had to piece in a small board and level with wood filler to bring the surface flush. Pain in the ass, but gave me a chance to make a lot of mistakes and score a lot of victories. there was a lot of water rot too, so that had to be removed and replaced. Know what the back door was? OSB hacked to fit with a large Donkey kong poster taped tight to hide it. All my other cabs are in much better shape, this was the bitch.

Well Phet you have done a hell of a job on that cab. It looks very nice and yes "brought back from the scrapyard" is right. I am bout to get a VS system so I hope you dont mind me picking your brain a bit if I need help (it'll be my first and only Nintendo cab) Again the cab looks great...Jake

Thanks Huck, Bill and Twentyone. Thing is, there are flaws on this cab, but it's my first cab resto this extensive so I welcome and embrace the shortcomings. The few fuck-ups I made will always remind me of when I was still young and foolish. My next, the DK resto, will outshine this in quality, but not heart or effort.

The before pics remind me of my DK before I got it fixed up. Plus mine had rear drag damage. Ugh. So glad that one is finished.

...and the fact of the matter is that 99% of the people who will be looking at it won't know of and will never SEE the screw ups...ONLY YOU and that select asshole friend who likes to continuously point out each and every flaw over and over again...bastard!

ANYWAY! The restoration looks tits! Are you considering dropping a DK + DK2 uprade in one of your cabinets?

Hey where's the right coin mech?? You didn't finish the coin mech on the right side! What about the coin mech? Coin mech....coin mech coin mech.

Nice Job on that one Phet.... how many Nin cabs does this one make?

WOW, how did ya get that little red "X" to fit so perfectly in that square?? Post the pics on Mattroids site so I can check it out!

AG, remember when I posted needing coin mech bolts? Well I got about as many responses as that personal ad you placed in the MSW section. I am trying to find a comparable substitute, but unlike finding you in the studded collar section at a leather store, finding actual carriage bolts that small has proven a fruitless search. The one that is in is being held on by cpo bolts, which are a little too skinny and long-just like the title of the song I wrote for you. Thanks guys.

Hey Phet,

Nice job on the DK jr. Hey, for those carriage bolts...I ended up using something I found at ACE hardware:

They aren't an exact match, but they look like they sorta belong if you know what I mean.

Sooo I couldn't follow, you're trying to find those small-ass carriage bolts for the coin mechs? Try Arcade Renovations. Although $0.50 each may be a bit steep considering you can order the same size from most specialty online hardware stores.

1. Why are your mechs so shiny
They are brand new.

I got them here:
http://www.pbresource.com/special.html

Search for the text "rolldown" on that page and you should find them towards the bottom.

$10 each! He only has token mechs though, but that's what I use so it worked out. If you buy them new from the manufacturer, they are $40/each.

b. is that sticker standard?
Yup.

3. where'd you get it?
Rich at ThisOldGame.com just started selling them:

There is a thread about them somewhere on here.
