Hey guys,
I searched the forum quite a bit and can't find an answer that works.
Here in MA you cannot buy custom colors in oil paint...why? WTFK!
But I can in CT but only at SHERWIN WILLIAMS because HD doesn't carry oil...geez.

Anyway, does anyone have the color code for the Nintendo DKjr/MARIO BROS orange cab color in a semi gloss?

I found a thread here with a code for SHERWIN WILLIAMS but it turned out to be "low sheen" with apparently means FLAT and it looks like $hit. They said THAT type of paint only has "low sheen" & "high gloss"...

Can anyone help me out on this? This is really becomeing waaayyyy harder than it should be.
I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks, ERIC

If your cab was originally orange then take one of the panels with the cp latches to Sherwin Williams and have them color match it.
I did that with my DK and it was spot on.

I took that low sheen oil based recipe into my sherwin williams and had them mix up a quart in an acrylic latex semi-gloss. I havent got that paint to the cab but have a small sample that I think looks GREAT! Once again this is latex and not oil based...

Oh. So you're dead set on oil based paint.

Here's a list of states where you can't buy oil based paints. Perhaps you can get someone living in a state where it's legal get it mixed and shipped to you? Is it legal to ship paint?

Connecticut
Delaware
District of Columbia
Maine
Massachusetts
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New York
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
Vermont
Virginia (Northern Region)
Illinois
Ohio
California

You can still buy oil based here in California but custom colors only in quarts.
I see gallons of stock colors all the time.

Have you asked if Sherwin Williams can match another company's color codes? I've taken codes for one brand of paint to another dealer before, and they've been able to convert them.

I seem to remember some people using home depot's behr premium kumquat color. maybe you could get a swatch for free from HD, then bring that to sherman williams and have them color match?

I think something is getting missed here. I just recently bought oil based paint in RI. It wasn't a custom color but it was oil based.

Huh, that never occured to me. I just assumed all codes were proprietarty to each system.

I might try that.

You can buy oil paint in MA too. Just not custom colors. So you're stuck with whatever Rustomeum sells in their cans of oils based.
