i have a dk3 with no sound picture and play is fine tested another pcb in cab and sound is fine wondering if there is a sound rom or ? any ideas thanks

There is a sound chip, I can't recall the number off the top of my head. I think Mikes Arcade sells them? Its blocked here at work, so I can't look it up for you

Yeah that MAY be the one, or else its the RP2A03H cpu?? That one is used one DK3, and Punchout....search the KLOV posts...

Try channelmatic, or riptor for it first, they may have it much cheaper....$25 seems a little steep to me??

well i swapped out rp20a3 with a couple i had and still no sound theres 2 of them tried both hmmmmm

Hmmm, they were known good ones? Welp time to pull out the schematic.....

Just looked at my board, the one that failed on it was in location 5J on the "battery" "cpu" side of the 2 board set....
Looking at the schematic, several outputs of the z80 at 5c make there way to 5F, then to 5J.....I will look closer at it tomorrow.....
One more idea is to run the games self test....access this by holding down the service switch until the test mode displays, it is test C-3 for the sound test....

Ok, the out put of 5J to the audio section is passes through c20 to R48 and on to the chip at 6P....

i tried the self test nothing came up i borrowed a good working pcb i swapped all the chips on the battery side that could be takin out without desoldering and still no audio taking a break then ill try the otherside

ok swapped all roms and chips on the other pcb side still no sound

Don't DKs with Sanyos have a sound amp as part as the monitor chassis? Is yours working?

Yeah he said that he tested it with a good board, and the sound was fine with the monitor....
I can't remember with out pulling out my board again, does DK3 have a sound pot, on it? I think no....
How about throwing new caps in the sound section, its a long shot....

Oh, I read it as..

Even if the board is good, if the amp is bad hes gonna be screwed right?

EDIT: NM - I didnt read the 1st post, ha.

Sure, that IS right....
But usually when those fail you get a hum and he has nothing...
His first post says the sound amp is fine.

Sounds like to me it is DEF something failed in the sound circuit on the PCB. but what?

Check your 3900 chips, they go bad on the Nintendo boards a lot. if you follow the trace back from the speaker pin on the edge connector, it'll probably lead straight to a 3900.
