Those of you that have DK2, how is the replay value of it? Do you only have it because it goes with DK, DKjr and DK3, or is it still fun to play?

The game is extremely addicting and challenging. If you like the original Donkey Kong and are up for a new challenge, you'll love the game. I couldn't stop playing it for a few months. However, I went back to playing original DK regularly and lately can't get myself to play D2K. I got sick of it. I do like it, it's great to have. But nobody but me and a few of my friends are willing to play it. It's so hard that most people can't get past the first level so they don't want to try again.

First off I should mention that DK is one of my favorite games of all time so I may be biased. That said I really do enjoy D2K and think it is a very challenging game. I equate it a bit more to DK jr than DK as I feel it is more about navigating the level and completing the tasks to finish the level rather than scoring a lot of points the way you can in DK. Most people get turned off to the game because it's pretty hard but if you are a good DK player then you will probably enjoy D2K.

I'll agree with what has been said already. It's fun for a good to very good DK player, but too difficult for kiddos and wives. My 9 year old son is a pretty good DK/DKjr/DK3 player and DK2 makes him get pretty angry with how precise your timing has to be.

I enjoy D2K a lot. The game IS hard. If you've not already made it past the 3rd elevator screen on DK, you'll likely have difficulty getting through all the levels on D2K. Learning each level took some time... but I'm now where I've adjusted the game back to 3 men from the 7 I think I had it set at to learn the game.

I recommend the game for anyone who enjoys Donkey Kong.

I did the same as Frizz - set for 7 men to learn and once I was comfortable I backed it down to 3. D2K is a great addition. The only downside for myself is I really only start enjoying the game after the initial capture of DK. The game starts to get tough - the first round is entirely too easy. I REALLY love D2K after you capture DK the second time. Wish there was a way to set the difficulty to that level of difficulty from th start.

Either way D2K is awesome and should be mandatory requirement for any DK owner ;)

And I wonder if there's a new D2KJR going to happen? I thought at one time I read or heard it some where that Jeff was considering it .....

As an avid DK player, I've played D2K at Frizz's, the Seattle show, and CAX and now that I finally have a DK I'm getting the D2K upgrade without a second thought. It's only $40 more than the high score kit. In fact, I eventually hope to do a dedicated D2K.

I agree with the suggestion that if you're not a good to great DK player D2K might not be for you.

Any of you guys that do have it, are you playing it in DK cabs with Nintendo joysticks exclusively, or does anyone have it in a different cab or even dedicated D2K cabs? I'm trying to decide if I want to bother with a dedicated D2K or put it in a DK cab.

If you have an extra cabinet, extra money laying around to buy the artwork and the space to add another cabinet then a dedicated cabinet would be cool. I don't have any of the aforementioned items so I have it installed in my red DK. I'd personally rather spend the money getting another machine or two working than build a dedicated cab anyway.

I too have a cab I want to add D2K to, and have already replaced the old CPU for a socketed Z80 in preparation. Work has been rough for me lately, so I don't have the $80 for the kit right now, but I do hope to purchase it in 2 or 3 months.

It is nice to hear that everyone here seems to have thought it was a good investment. I was originally going to just buy a high score save kit, until I heard about this hack- and this thread just helps cement my decision to spend a little bit more to get more play out of DK.

I've only played it on two occasions: p1899m's DK/D2K cab and at CAX. I too am a little biased since DK is one of my favorite games. I plan on upgrading eventually. Like most guys have said already, if you love DK and you can break 100K on it regularly, then D2K should be well worth it.

I don't like DK very much but everytime I go to Dan's house I hog the D2K machine.
