I hate to ask another monitor question, but I bought another DK 19 Inch Sanyo monitor that was working previously when the seller had it.

When I installed it and turned it on, however, it didn't work right. It let out this really loud shrill that wouldn't let up and the screen is flying really fast from bottom left to top right and shaking a bit. There are also a few vertical lines on the right part of the screen.

You can see the Donkey Kong game running, it's just not staying still and displaying correctly. I know the rest of my cab is setup right, so it has to be an issue with the monitor.

If anyone could lend their advice, I'd really appreciate it!

1. make sure it is plugged into the outlet in the cab and not a wall outlet
2. make sure that the ground is hooked up to the frame
3. verify the B+ is at 108vdc
4. it is not uncommon to have to adjust the h hold when moving a Sanyo from one game to another.

Definitely plugged into the cab. I've tried various combinations of the knobs including H-Hold, no luck yet...

What do you mean by ground being hooked to the frame exactly?

there are several ground wires in a Nintendo cab. they are green and connect to various places such as the control panel, coin door, and monitor frame.

I'm not sure I have a ground wire connected to the frame. I just have the video/sound plugged in and the monitor plugged into the AC. I don't see any spare ground wires, either, just the green wires that seem to ground the transformer.

I've had this problem when I had a Nintendo cab with Pit Fighter in it. I capped it and used DKJR for testing and it was way off. Just had to adjust the h hold and it fixed it right up. It also made the shrill noise until adjusted. - Barry

Thanks, Barry!

Excuse my ignorance on the subject, but is the H-Hold Pot one of the knobs on the back of the monitor board?

Here's a pic of my monitor.

nope, it is on the chassis just above and to the right of the flyback toward the tube

I thought the diagram showed that, but I had no idea there was a pot there! (The things I'm learning restoring my first cabinet, haha.)

Thanks guys, I'm excited to give this a try! I'll give this a try tomorrow and report back.

Thanks to your help Dokert and Barry, I got my DK up and running! Monitor is working perfectly (besides sound for now) and it looks fantastic.

I had two last questions (hopefully), though. I haven't played an actual arcade DK in years, so I can't remember the answers and I apologize if they're dumb questions.

When I put a coin in, the game starts automatically instead of having to hit player one or player two buttons. If you insert a coin during gameplay, when the game is over, you then must use the buttons to start the game. Is the game supposed to start automatically like that?

Also, when I hit the jump button, there's a small delay before Jumpman jumps. Is that normal or is that off? I seem to remember there is, but just want to be sure.

1 - No you should have to hit the player 1 button. check the wiring at the switch first

2- No it should be immediate check the wiring at the switch and there is some adjustment of the switch as well.
-Barry

Beat me to it.......................

Are you talking about the actual switchs inside of the buttons?

Post a pic of the back of your control panel. The originals have some adjustment up and down.

So they are microswitches built into the bottom of the button. - No adjustment there.

Are there 3 tabs on each switch?

Try disconnecting the player start buttons and coin it up and see if it starts a game.

Yup, microswitches.

There are three tabs built into each switch. I have it wired to the same way as the picture of your CP. I think (I could be wrong, as I can't access the cab at the moment) that it might be jumping when you let go of the button. Not sure if that matters.

I'll definitely try and D/C the player start buttons and see what happens.

There's not a chance there could be a PCB problem, is there?

Thanks for all your help!

could be a boardset issue, but most likely it is an adjustment issue with the control panel switches or a switch that is not wired up correctly
