Howdy,

Recently acquired a DK cab. The screen would scroll and dip and all sorts of messed up stuff.

So I ordered and installed the monitor and Audio amp board kits from bob roberts.

With that, it breathed new life into the monitor, colors are good, no more scrolling or folding. However, there are a few issues.

1. My screen still "waves" slightly(like the whole screen is on water), and also for example on the score, the numbers have a fast mini wave to them.

2. My B-Voltage only reads from 88.7 to 89.3. No matter how far I turn my adjuster.

3. When I'm playing the game, as the sound is going, it makes the screen jump or Beat, to every sound of the game. For example the music on first board, when it playes the lower beat especially, the screen will jump/bloom a bit. (is this the B-Voltage voltage not having enough? and no I don't have the sound too loud...lol)

So I'm not really sure where to go from here. Or what to order next. Don't get me wrong, the cap kit fixed 80% of the problem, but I would like to get it going as close to 100 as I could.

Thanks for any input!!

****Update**********

How on earth I missed Dokerts flow chart is beyond me. So basically I have to get a replacement for C606(value?)(for the wave. replace VR1 and VR2 on the game board, replace V352,353,354 on the monitor board for the jitters. AND I may have a bad flyback because I can't adjust over 90v......so Im I reading that right? (and does bob sell a flyback for this, as I don't see it listed under his flyback section)

Is there a chart or point me into the direction of a schematic that has the values of the VR(353 and so on) and C606 and such, as while I do enjoy buying stuff from Bob, his website is kind of hard to search items. And if there is anything else, I would need to order while I'm at it, as I hate this hen peck ordering. I would rather just order everything I need and get it all done.

Again, any help would be great!!

Thanks

Bob has everything except the fly, they are only available from either Arcadeshop or Arcadecup. The fly is kinda spendy, and I would replace the B+ pot first at only a $1. C606 is listed as a filter cap on Bob's site. The adjustment pots come in a set of 5 for $10. (1 of each) The VR1 & VR2 are listed under Nintendo parts on Bob's site, I prefer the 50K ones.

Thank you Dokert for your response!!

Ive done the Cap kit... replaced all pots on remote and neck board and pcb. I've also replaced the B+ pot. I've replaced the big cap C606. I've also replaced the flyback as well. And I still get a slight wave on the screen. But more importantly my B+ will not go above 90v. no matter which way I turn the pot.

As far as the wave I'm thinking it might by the switcher that is in it the cab as it's older. (and as a new switcher fixed that wave problem in my Circus Charlie cab last year.)

But I'm not sure where to go for the b+ voltage being low. And the screen still shakes when donkey kong stomps the ground. If I turn the volume way down, that kind of goes away. But depending on the bass of the sound, the screen "beats" to it.

Any suggestions would be great. I followed the flow chart and the end lead me to a suspect bad flyback, but i just changed that and the volts are still low.

Any other suggestions would be most grateful.

turn the brightness up on the fly and see if the B+ increases

Howdy,

Sorry for the sporadic responses, but my work hours and play hours differ from the typical 9 to 5 jobs...lol

Ok so I turned up the B+ voltage pot(new) and the voltage stays the same 88 to 90v. I turned up the Brightness via flyback like you asked and the voltage drops down into the 70's. Doesn't go up at all.

I installed a new switcher, and that cleaned up the screen a little, but not much. As the the screen still Flag waves and I've got what looks like interference lines running on the screen itself. That go one way, then stop and turn and go the other way, so it makes straight lines look squiggly.

Also the left side of the screen kind of droops down, but the colors and lines look matched up(on the left side). But on the right side, it appears that the colors are mis-aligned. Look at pics for what I'm talking about.

And the screen still "Blooms" when the music is going or donkey kong bangs his chest. But I assume that is due to the Voltage being so low.

So what do you suggest now? The last monitor that gave me so much trouble was a G05 for my asteroids cocktail....lol.

Again, thank you for your input!!

Those are on the right and the different colors dont line up. But they do line up on the left side though....but it dips on the left side...

Everything lines up perfect on the left, but it does droop down on lower left portion of the screen though..

Ok I will do that when I get home. Any suggestions for the non adjustable b voltage? I've check my soldering and placements. Everything seems correct it just won't go above 90v and if I turn up the screen or brightness on the flyback the voltage drops?

Not sure what to make of the B+ issue.

Where did you get the fly at out of curiosity?

Sorry for the delay in response. I ordered it from Arcadecup.com

I'm still stumped on what to do..... Not sure whats left to swap or change out other then another chassis...lol

No other suggestions?

?
??? Not that I really want to, but can i put another type of monitor(vision pro or other brand) in a dk cab? How does that work with the amplifer board being on the monitor itself? Again, not that I want to, but I really would like to get this going.

Sorry, but Im not really sure where to go from this point. 50+ bucks worth of new stuff on this chassis, and it still has these problems...and I thought my G05 Vector was a pain in the ass....

Any help? Thanks!!

did you get the convergence issue fixed?

Howdy Dokert

Yes I did get the convergence fixed. Well as good as its going to get..lol. I started to go mad going back and forth to get it just right. :)

However though, my voltage is still 88-90v. And the screen shakes when the audio is being used. As if not enough power. And I still have a flag wave on the screen, and I found that if I let it warm up enough, the squiggly lines go away.

I see that Mikes Arcade has audio amp by itself. It would probably help with the screen shaking by passing the monitor itself.

However, even if I unplug the audio portion(PCB) of the monitor the voltage is still the same. This is not a friendly monitor(to me) to deal with.

I wonder if I was sent the Correct Flyback from ArcadeCUP? What do you think. Like I told you earlier, when I crank up the brightness, the voltage dips to the 70's??

Hello, your are missing B+ regulation which have symptoms of a low b+, high b+ and or the flag waving problem... I have seen the flag waver from a bad filter cap. However a bad filter cap is extremely rare... You should be able to fix your problem by replacing ic601, vr601 & D1090 transistor right next to ic601... If you still have a problem it's possible however rare to have a corrupt HOT (replace with 2sd869 or 2sd870). Then the next I would look cap legs migrated to another circuit while soldering in or you have a open trace / pad from handling the board... godo luck!.

Chad.
