So, I've been playing way too much Donkey Kong lately, trying to up my score. Anyway, I've noticed some trends in my game play and was curious about how other players play.

Specifically, when taking out the last rivet on the rivet boards. I've noticed that I always jump when I take out the final rivet, so Mario is frozen in that cool karate kick pose. For whatever reason, it just doesn't feel as good to finish the level to me if I just walk across the rivet.

Anybody else do the same? Have any other things like this you always do with Donkey Kong?

I usually go up and "taunt" Donkey Kong by jumping near his foot to ring up points, then hop back over the last rivet just before the bonus timer runs out. I guess I never stopped to think about being in midair.

But I usually do that on Moon Patrol - jumping the car over the checkpoint...

I like finishing the rivet stage but being in the middle and jumping outwards over the rivet and landing on your butt

I always jump. I totally agree. Plus, if you can't get all the fireballs on the other side, you can jump the fireball for an extra 100 sometimes

I like the "roundhouse kick" move when you jump away from kong and then flip back around to get with the lady.

I used to do the fakie on the barel boards, level 3 and up, at the bottom girder, where you briefly run back and then forward again to eat up time and then jump the diagonal blue barrel that comes down. Now I usually do a double jump there.

I have always jumped the final rivet. I don't know why I always do it, but I do. I remember watching the older kids play DK in the arcades, back when there were lines to play certain games and you had to put a quarter up on the marquee, and they always jumped the last rivet. The people I taught to play DK when it was at the bar also jumped the last rivet. I think it's part of human instinct to jump the last rivet.

Yep. Same here.

I've always jumped the last rivet too. Actually, it's a good idea, esp. if you're running out of time. If the timer is on 0, you can't die while in the air (only after you land), so if there's time to jump, you'll make it.

Typically a jumper, especially if anywhere near a fireball.

Another one though i see quite often is jumping the half ladder on the ramps board. I typically don't on the first level, but after that i do, so i can pick up the points jumping away from the diagonal barrel or over after the second ramp level. I know it doesn't do anything, and it doesn't matter where you jump for the stall, but i see a lot of people jump there. Anyone here do that?

Yeah, I've always done that too :D It takes a fraction of a second longer to jump, so it delays you just enough to get points from the diagonal blue barrel he pitches first. You don't actually have to do it with level 3+, but it makes timing the barrel jump a little easier (I find I hit the barrel sometimes if I don't jump once)

On Level 2 you can actually run just underneath the diagonal barrel if you take off as soon as the level starts and don't stop. I don't do this, though. Gives me the willies.

Yep, I always jump the last rivet.

And in Shinobi, I always jump and shoot a bunch of shurikens at the wall right before exiting the stage. When they hit, they flash will freeze on the screen as the level ends.

Here is how Phet finishes a level.

Yeah, you can do that, but then you won't be able to get the 100 points for jumping ahead of it :D
