The wife got me a Donkey Kong as an early Christmas present!

She's definitely not mint, but in pretty decent overall shape. Currently running Midnight Resistance, but the seller threw a DK bezel, CP, and new side art into the deal. Just bought all the internals for a DK from another KLOV member, so the plan is to get her back to as close to original as possible.

She's still got the original Sanyo monitor, but it's missing the sound board and vertical monitor brackets. Luckily, I think those are the only additional parts I'll need to track down.

I'll post more in this thread as I work on her over the next couple weeks.

If my wife got me a game for X-mas I wouldn't care what kinda shape it's in at all, sweet deal for you. . . . .

Re:

Cool man, I just got one, it's missing a monitor and front bezel. I'm trying to figure out if I can use a monitor out of a VS cab which is oriented horizontal.

Yes you can, i believe the only difference is the power plug?

Got the DK cab cleaned up this weekend. Tore everything out and gave her a good scrub. First time I've used a Magic Eraser on a cab, and man did it do wonders. Between the scrub job and the new side art she's looking 10 years younger. ;)

Ordered new t-molding and a new sound board, which should be here any day now. Can't wait to get her wired up and running. I also have three pretty junky Nintendo joysticks I'm hoping I can combine into one decent one. :)

Finished getting the DK up and running last night. Re-capped the monitor and wow, what a difference. I was getting jail bars and all sorts of other odd problems with it before the cap job. Now she looks absolutely gorgeous. Noticed that the flyback is looking a little crusty, so I might do a preemptive replacement soon before she blows.

I also rebuilt the joystick. The one that came with the CP was missing the shaft, but the body and restrictor plate were in good shape. A repro shaft from Mike's Arcade and a transplant of the spring and other bits from a VS joystick fixed her right up.

Now all that's left is to get the rebuilt sound board and audio transformer installed and she'll be finished.

Starting to look like an arcade in here!

Looks great. Nice work. Judging by the tiles on the floor you have room for at least 1 more game on that wall. What will it be?

I have a DK and Radarscope database going and would love to get the tag data off the back of your game to add to the info. Model Number and Serial Number would be great.

Looks fantastic! Nice work. Always nice to get a cabinet that can clean up and not need painting. You should be proud, looks awesome!

Very Nice!

Wow, that's amazing. Does anyone know if a DK joystick ball is the same size as a VS joystick ball???

My repro DK ball from Mike's measures 30mm. The two VS joysticks I have are 28mm, so they're very close. Not sure how accurate the repro one is. The only reason I went with a repro is that the shafts on the VS sticks are too short for wooden CPs.

Re:

I put a VS joystick on my DK and it seems like it works good, but the ball seems just a tad smaller than the original. Anyways, good job on that DK, I hope to do the same with mine...

That looks fantastic for such a quick restoration! I wish I could do a restoration in such a short time-frame!
