Just got a DK and all looks and plays great, except hum from pwr supply. Where should I start?
Thanks
Mike

Is the hum actually coming from the power supply or through the speaker?

Games like DK, DK Jr., Popeye, etc. are all notorious for speaker hum as a result of caps going bad on the audio board on the monitor chassis. Some guys recap that board to "fix" it or they just leave as is and accept it as part of the experience.

thx

its not from speaker, with speaker un plugged still there, when I psuh on pwr supply housing it changes a little, just probably live with it, when playing you cant hear
Thanks again

Hmm, I've never had to deal with power supply problems with my Nintendo cabs, but I know they've been known to crap out as well. Maybe yours is on the brink? Either way, you can just find a replacement original (search FS or post in WTB) or install a switching PS if you're not a purist.

To add to that, capping the audio board might reduce the hum but probably won't remove it all together. Nintendo's audio amp is powered throught the monitor and you get some hum from that design. There is a threashold though. If the hum is really loud then a cap kit might reduce it.

I have a power supply in one of my JAMMA cabs that screeches like a horned owl when turned on - gets quieter as time passes. I'm sure it's bad caps. The game sucks, and it doesn't get turned on much, so I've left it alone.

thx

Thanks guys for the quick response, I don't see how it can be the amp board when unplugging the speaker makes on difference, but again yall are the experts. I have recapped 6 or 7 sanyos including the amp board, but the pic is so good on this one i may wait a while

Yeah, if the game looks and plays great, I wouldn't worry about a little hum unless it's so overwhelming that it distracts from the game play.
