DK minor issues... technical advice wanted (with photos and video)...

My DK makes the same noise also. I believe its normal. Either that or we both have screwed up boards haha.

My DK makes the same noise as well. I still need to cap the sound board on the monitor to see if that will help. Maybe I will actually get to it one of these days.

Try reseating eproms 7c, 7d, and 7e. It looks like those are the ones that can affect kong and the hammer, although yours is a very minor glitch compared to these pics.

I probably should have mentioned I reseated all the chips already. I figured the sound was normal and it really dosent bother me, just wanted a second opinion.

I have capped the sound board on mine and it resulted in no change. I read somewhere that it was a transistor on the PCB. I dont remember who said it, but he had a big repair log going. Ill try to google it.

I am not sure if I am any help but I just got My DK machine sunday and I also have the same noise.

With the video;

when the guy delivered the machine he hooked it up in the middle of my basement and it was flawless, when we moved it to the side wall where I originally wanted it the picture became very light so the picture didnt come back correct until I moved it a little sideways and farther away from the wall. The past 2 days it took a while for the machine to come on correctly, I had to reset it a few times until the picture came up correctly but then I would have the same video issues you are having with the lines and flickering. So earlier today I moved it even further from the wall and later today the machine came on right away and the picture is flawless. I am figuring I have some open wires in the wall or it could all be a coincidence.

I had a DK cocktail which had the same sound, I just turned the sound down a little to where it wasn't as noticeable. The cocktail has since been sold. I always assumed it was some sort of 60Hz hum that could be fixed with extra grounding to the monitor or something, but i wasn't sure. I'd certainly be curious on this as this seems to be common on some DK's. If you have another Nintendo cab I would try swapping the sound boards. I would also try running the sound to some type of mini amp board if you have something like that. It would determine if the sound problem was on the amp board and if it needed a cap kit or extra grounding.

I cant switch the sound board because the Mario Bros. has a Sanyo monitor, DK has a Sharp monitor, looks like the sound is integrated with the chassis.

Either way I'm more concerned about the video. It dosent really bother me much either but I do worry about it turning into a bigger issue later on. Any thoughts there?

when you say reseated did you just basically press down on each chip to ensure they were in all the way? when i first got my DK cocktail i had an issue where after being on for a long time it would freeze up into a screen of garbled images. i pulled out each socketed chip on the boards and cleaned the legs and then reseated them. if you haven't cleaned them you might try that route. i used tarn-x to clean them, as all the legs on the chips were black and nasty.

I replaced Q4 and my sound went away. Yours sounds like it may be Q6. Either way, replace them both.

Problem: Background tone always present, walk sound off.

Sounds like the walk sound never completely cuts off.

Solution: replace transistor Q6 on the CPU board, a 2SC 1815
