Well, finally finished my cap kit for my amp board in my Donkey Kong Junior (sanyo ezv). I've now gone from ear splitting sound to none at all. On the plus side, nothing blew up so I guess I at least have the polarity of the caps correct.

In my mind there could be two causes of this problem. Could be that I did a crap job with my soldering and screwed something up. This was my first time soldering, so this is very possible.

Second is how I have the speaker connected. I'm using alligator clips to connect the red and white wires to the speaker because the connectors are broken off. Could this be the issue?

Anyhow, I'm done with it for tonight. I'll inspect the soldering tomorrow and adjust if necessary. After that, I guess I'll be in the market for a replacement amp board. Great.

First thing I'd check is the sound board and make sure the 2 connectors that looks the same aren't in the wrong location. I think one is labeled JB and I can't remember the other. They are marked on the connector housing and the board.

If these are backwards you may have fried the sound section of your Jr boardset. If they are right try checking output with another speaker. - Barry

Thanks Barry. I'm pretty sure I got the connections right, but I'll check again. I'll also test with a different speaker.

Would a bad soldering job result in no sound at all? I'm really hoping this is the case.

Yes a bad solder job could make no sound.

There's also a fuseable resistor on the board down near one of the connectors, if it opens up you won't have any sound.

Thanks LyonsArcade. I did see a few solder joints that might be suspect, so I'll re-do those.

Do you happen to have a pic or anything of "There's also a fuseable resistor on the board down near one of the connectors, if it opens up you won't have any sound." Not sure what you mean by this.

Thanks,
Paul

MAKE DAMN SURE THAT THE TWO CONNECTORS ARE ON THE CORRECT HEADERS!

If it is wrong you could blow the sound section on your boardset or smoke the monitor or both.

I will make sure about the connectors. Pretty sure I got it right because I played it a bit with no monitor problems or smoke (if you mean that literally).

Also, the connectors had been in place so long they were formed into shape pretty much exactly where they needed to be.
