Just picked this machine up. The controls seem to work when DK is on the ground, he will go left right fine. The issue lies when he is on vines. There seems to be some invisible vines he will grab and float in mid air. Also he will not go left when on a vine, just hover in the middle of the vine. Makes the game impossible. What could be doing this? Created some vids:

Also when it turns on, there is no test program...

Also here is a pic of him grabbing a non-existent vine.

Does DK Jr even have a test pattern? I know DK doesn't. On DK, you might see some garbage for a brief moment, but if your monitor isn't already warmed up, you'd miss it.

Maybe not. Never owned any arcades before this.

Still is weird though you cant move left on a vine tho....

I pulled the board out. I found a 1uf cap that was all smashed up and one of the legs was pulled out a little bit. I replaced it, but still no luck. I saw one of those flat circle (ceramic) caps close to it that looks a little damaged but didn't have anything on stock to repair it.

Also tried reseating some of the roms, still does the same thing. There was a sticker on it, that said it checked out OK in 1987...LOL.

I bought a new PCB on e-spray. Another 100 thrown into this machine, but works great now. I still wonder what's up with my other one.
Put a cap kit on the monitor and that also looks great now. Getting closer, now just the cab looks sick...

After putting my new PCB in, the button the previous owner installed to give you credits no longer works. The service switch on the coin door does though. Everything appears to be hooked up. Would he have made a modification to the board itself for this?? Or is it just a coincidence. Not sure how those things work.

Don't really care about the switch not working, just wondering why.
