Dk Jr body work/ orange paint code

I've been online looking at paint codes trying to find a code for DK Jr. orange. All the codes I can find are based off US brand paints.
I'm just east of Toronto, Ontario Canada.
We have Lowes and Rona now (both I think American) but I can't find a paint code using a Lowes or Rona product.

The cabinet I'm getting is red at the present time.
It has a DK 3 CPO.
I'm by no means a purist, I should say that. I want the cabinet to look good, but I don't care if it's "factory new."

Perhaps someone with a DK Jr or perhaps DK 3 can tell me if the orange in the control panel is a good or close match to the orange of the cabinet ?

I only ask because it can be easily removed and brought in for color matching.

Thanks

Do you have a Home Depot there? I have an exact match based off a chip from a cab. You may be able to use it at Lowes.

This is what it looks like on a cab:

I do have Home Depot in Canada.
In fact I enjoy dealing with them........5 minutes away.
Thank you very much.
That worked out awesome.

Perhaps if I can ask for some tips when it comes to painting.
Im told foam rollers ?

And should I go with a latex or oil ?

Whoah, whoah, whooooooooaaaaah there Silver! If that cabinet is red, and red is the original cabinet color, it's almost certainly either a radarscope, or a red donkey kong (both of which are pretty rare). Painting over a red dk with orange for a donkey kong Jr. would be a tradgedy. Make sure to check the serial number on the back when you get it!

Good point Jam. Red cabs are hard to find. May want to think twice aboot painting it orange. If you do decide to paint, 1 quart should be plenty, and yes, foam rollers work the best. Make sure you scuff the painted areas with a high grit sandpaper so the paint has something to grab on to. I can't get oil base here, so I use latex. I think it looks great, easy to clean up and goes on smooth.

I see what you did there. :)

Whatever paint/enamel Nintendo used on their cabs is especially durable - even Bondo barely sticks to it. So yeah, definitely sand it first to scuff it if you're going to repaint it, especially with latex. Home Depot here doesn't carry much oil based paint either; they have some exterior alkyd, but not in every colour base or sheen.

descrentl, that cab looks awesome. Did you prime it first? Or just sand lightly and paint right over the factory finish? I'm working on a DK Jr. now. I was just going to touch up a few areas of the paint on the side, but after seeing that pic, now I'm thinking maybe I'll repaint the whole thing.

The guy who sold me the machine is an arcade enthusiast. I can't see him letting go of something rare for so cheap. But I will none the less check the serial number when I pick it up. I'll post my findings and the image here.
Thanks for the tips and tricks.
I'm looking forward to this project.
I'll also be trying my hand @ bondo for the 1st time.

I usually only prime if I'm changing colors or there's a lot of bondo to cover. In the case of my Mario restore, the cab was real nice, but faded, so I just scuffed and painted. 3 coats.

Thanks again for the tips.
I'll try my hand @ bondo and repair what damage I can.
Going from red to orange I think I will prime it.
But I will sand it prior to get the best coverage.
Good to know I only need a quart, I would have bought the big can.

The thing is, in that style of cab, there's not much else it could be (unless someone painted it red). A lot of arcade enthusiasts don't know that DK originally came in a red cab so it's very possible he has no clue what it is.

That looks like a painted particle board cab to me. Look how rough the right side is.

That's not a factory red cabinet, it's been painted red. Most likely it started life as an orange dkjr.

You guys are correct.
I picked up the cabinet today (ill post some pics later).
It has 2 serial number plates on the back, but none that were for Radar Scope. Upon closer inspection out of the dark garage it was clear that the cabinet was painted red. In some areas you can see the orange.

It is indeed a particle board cabinet, and some parts are very ruff.
I'll need to replace the caster's and the entire bottom base. Towards the bottom of the cabinet is in really bad shape.

The cabinet is ruff all over with little grooves and what not. Imperfections from the particle board I take it. I'm really unsure as to how much body work I can/should put into it.

I plan on trying this bondo :

I'll post some pics of the trouble areas later, perhaps you guys can share some tips with me as to what I should try as a means of repair.
I'll certainly give it my all.

I should also ask,

for the initial sanding prior to painting what grit of sandpaper is recommended ?

I think I will indeed prime the cabinet before beginning to paint it with the orange paint.

Is it recommended I sand between coats ? If so again what grit of sandpaper should I use ?

Depends on the damage. Post up some pics, close ups on the damaged areas. I got some original casters if you want to pay the shipping. May not be cheap though.

Dan, Latex or Oil?
Spray or roller?

I can't get mine to look that good...so far it loosk like shit. I'm doing a MARIO WB right now and I tried Gloss and it looks baaaaaad. Maybe semi-gloss will look better.
