Can someone tell me if this game is worth 400?

http://annarbor.craigslist.org/tag/2173254447.html

Owner states that the speaker is making a humming sound to the point where it has to be disabled. Owner also states that the cabinet is in bad shape with orange peel look.

Cabinet has no molding on it and original wood coin box and board cage is missing.

Harness was changed out using the Dokkart harness.

Monitor may need a cap kit he says cause of the humming sound...

Cabinet has no DK Jr. Side art.

I still offered him $215 for it, but he seems to think it's worth $400 which I don't agree because I would have to strip, repaint, buy molding, buy side art and possibly a new monitor or have someone fix it with a cap kit.

any input on this would be appreciated. Two people told me not to buy it. He does claim that the board set is working.

I think $200 is a fair price, it's looks 'okay' but if you need to do all that work I'd look for another one in better condition for around $400

With all the extra's included, I'd offer $300. Seller seems like a straight shooter just reading that ad, and he's probably right about the audio board just needing a rebuild, cheap and easy. If he's firm, ask yourself if you really, really, really want it, and consider how much you can earn selling the extra's, or possibly trading them for side art, t-molding and so on. Maybe see if hell take a lower price without the extra's on the table.

There was a decent "parts" coin door in the FS section for $25 shipped. Not sure if its still available of not.

He said he had $500 into the machine, that would have been with the purchase of the new harness I assume, but $500?? I can find machines all day long down south in storage units and in barns in better condition then this..

I offered him 275 for the parts tho.. I think this is fair. I would rather build a new cabinet then to spend so much time stripping paint and re-doing particle board. He said the cabinet was particle board and he did bondo work on the cabinet. As for him being a straight shooter, he told me he wasn't budging on $4 bills, so I think greed has interrupted his thinking a bit.

Am I missing something? The ad says the cab has fresh paint and a bright monitor, but you say it needs a cab and monitor rebuild? Unless he botched the paint job... it looks decent in the photo. As far as the "cap kit", the audio is probably the only part of it in need. It's likely thats a Sanyo monitor, and if thats the case then the audio PCB is seperate from the monitor chassis... I'd find out what kind of monitor is in that game. Is he giving you a differt story over the phone than what his ad states?

Either way, he might have $500 into it, dosent mean its worth that. In all honesty its worth about half that. I'm not even sure a Jr. in mint condition is worth $500.

I talked to him over the phone, he said the audio board was on the monitor or something, and he said he painted the cabinet and it had an orange peel look. yes it looks ok in the photo but it's not what he told me on the phone, he said he painted it primed and sanded it 2 coats each or something and the paint came out not a flat surface.

I agree with you, it's not worth no $400 Like I said the funny part is, I offered him 275 for him to gut the machine and just give me the board, graphics, hardware and control panel, he didn't want too. lol...

Anyway.. no bigi... If the game was totally new and nothing wrong with it, I could see paying more then $500 for it, but not in that shape..

This is still one of those instances I am wondering what all the commotion is when I couldn't even sell a DK Jr for $175 for 2 months, LOL

Price varies by region. He'd have no problem getting $400 for a junior like that in the NW. If all it needs is T-molding and a cap kit $400 isn't that bad. - Barry

That's right - the Nintendo cabinets had an audio amplifier mounted up on the monitor chassis. It's a small PCB about the size of a playing card with about a half a dozen caps on it, and a few transistors. Bob Roberts sells a rebuild kit for it that should solve the sound issues.

Yeah but it also needs side art. Any collector putting this in his home is going to want a complete nice looking machine, even if it's going to be placed in a store, you don't want your customers saying it's a junk looking machine and not get no game play out of it. If it was a nice cabinet at least with side art, I'd say $400 might be fair.

Then buy one of those.

I'd say to keep looking. It's more than you want to pay for the machine and this one is not the only DK out there.

My coworker has a DK Jr that is in really good shape. He has the repro side art on it, a repro bezel in it and a new set of buttons from mikesarcade.com. I built him a 60 in 1 after he bought it, so now he is thinking about selling the DK Jr. Only problems with it are on one side the laminite is chipped about an inch wide and goes about half way up, and it needs a new volume adjustment knob. When the speaker is plugged in it is on full blast. Game plays perfect though and the monitor is bright. It is located in Waterford and I think he is going to ask $500 or best on it. I know he has more than $500 into it, but he also knows the market is down from a few years ago when he bought it. Let me know if you would be interested in that and I can get you some pics.

I'd pay $300 for the one in question. It has fresh paint (you can sand out the flaws and paint over it), the monitor looks good, good marquee and cabinet, new harness and extra stuff. Sounds fair to me!

Needs new T-molding, no biggie there... And the CP looks decent from the pics.
