Has anyone installed the DKII kit on a four board set? The arcade shop website says, its not as easy, but I couldn't find what the process is for using it on a 4 board set.

Anyone have any experience?

Can I just put a 2 board into a 4 board cab or is it a pain ?

I believe the difference is that the z80 is soldered on to the 4 board set where it is socketed on the 2 board set. So the smartest move would be to remove the z80 and add a socket. Once that's done the kit is plug n play.

Thanks for the help guys.

Looks like I'll be bartering with the mickster for some soldering help.

It isn't that hard, I had to do it with my cocktail. I took pictures of the process- maybe it'll give you a bit of confidence to do it on your own.

Here's where the z80 chip is located.

Here's a closer view.

Here is the empty space where the CPU used to be.

It's nearly impossible to remove a chip with this many legs and reuse it. I cut the legs and saved a lot of time.

Here is the socket that is key to adding the multi kit. If you're z80 isn't socketed you won't be able to add the kit.

Not all 4-board sets have the Z80 soldered either. If you have a cocktail, it may be from a later run after they started socketing the Z80. Mine had a socket, so the only thing I had to do different was move the audio 1/2 board. It was covering the Z80 slot, so I moved the spacers so it was over the top half instead. The wires on the board interconnect cables were long enough.

I have 2 TKG-2 4 boardsets that are converted radarscope boards and the Z80's are socketed and it works fine. - Barry

I just did this tonight, it was not that bad. After clipping the legs of the z80, the pins came right out. It was not a quick job, but not very hard.

That z80A (ladder cheat) chip might be valuable. I see people looking for those every once in a while.

The ladder cheat works if the Z80 is socketed or not. I socketed my z80 and put a new chip there months before I ever got the DKII kit. It's the version of the ROMs that determine if you can do the ladder cheat or not. The DKII kit bypasses all those ROMs, making the ladder cheat not possible, while the kit is installed.
