After installing my d2k board upgrade on my 2-board dk pcb set, for a short period (2 minutes) I got this weird set of lines on my screen which went away on its own. Weeks later, I fire it up and the lines are back. I'm thinking it might be the Z80 but not sure. Any ideas? If it is the z80, what speed is it?

Reseat and clean all the ROMs, especially those on the Video board. I just did the same thing to a Popeye board and it took it from completely dead to 100% working.

I believe if it were the z80 you'd just get garbled screen. I'd pull the D2K kit. Pull the PCB off the metal plate. Reseat the z80 on the kit. Place the pcb on a table on cardboard and seat the KIT firmly. Most problems with high score kits for Nintendo is the kit isn't firmly seated. If you install it without support on the back of the PCB it will flex and not seat.

It may or my not fix it, but it's where I'd start. - Barry

Barry,
When I installed it I did remove the board entirely and pushed it down on my bench and made sure the header pins were fully seated into the chip socket. I accidentally installed the Z80 backwards on the first run and then quickly cut it and flipped it back and it all worked fine. Did I damage the z80?

I'm not sure if it's damaged. Have you tried pulling the kit and just put the z80 back in the board and see what you get? - Barry

This is a common problem when the kit is not fully seated and or the Z80 is not fully seated.

If you have fully reseated the kit, reseat the Z80.

So I pulled the kit and reinstalled the Z80 and reseated all the socketed chips and it started up DK with no problem or lines. I then reinstalled the board and Z80 and placed them back in and had the lines again. I took the board out of the cage and propped it on some cardboard to push on the z80/board chips while it was on to see if I could diagnose how to get rid of the lines and they were gone before I did anything. I then put the board back in the cage and the lines reappeared. I then flipped the board in the cage where the z80/addon board were facing away from the right wall of the cage and they stayed gone. So I'm not sure if the board was bending oddly in that position or the cage was causing some interference but it works now and I played her for 2 hours tonight without lines and large amounts of swearing.

This is a common problem when the kit is not fully seated and or the Z80 is not fully seated.

If you have fully reseated the kit, reseat the Z80.
