Does anyone prefer the original Japanese version of DK / DK JR? I've kind of taken a liking to them from poking around in MAME, because the levels make a more "logical" progression (it feels more like telling a story from beginning to end every 4 levels, instead of jumping around like the US version does), and you have something like 15 characters for entering your name in the high score.

If I end up picking up an EPROM burner, and also assuming it's just a matter of switching ROMs, I might convert my boards over. Anyone else feel the same? I'm assuming I'm going to be in the minority here.

Yes, like you said, the level progression makes much more sense since the rivets are where you actually "beat" Kong.

I kinda like the Japanese order too...actually it's one of the reasons I've always liked Crazy Kong too (since it's based on the Japanese code). Crazy Junior (Crazy Kong Junior) also had the Japanese order of DK Jr (I only ever saw one BITD, and it was the first time I ever saw Marios Hideout since it's only the 3rd board in. I wasn't good enough on regular DK Jr to get to it)

I was going to actually create a post about this..

Why would they feel the need to swap all the levels around for the US market?
At first I thought something was wrong with my DK JR, because the level arrangement was different than the DK JR nes version, but I guess that's how it is.

I also prefer the JP version. I don't know why they go from the first level right to the last in the US version. Maybe to get some more quarters out of us, to make it harder to actually play all the levels.

Man, I forgot all about this post.. Going to convert my DK and DK JR this weekend. :D I've got a rom burner and some roms just chilling waiting to go.

Remember if you are using the D2K kit then replacing the roms on the cpu board won't make any difference since the roms on the kit are the ones used.

I just played my DK J for the first time in a long time. I completed the first level and started level two. I was surprised that I got to the springboards so quickly. I do not even remember putting in the Japanese ROM's. That game was the most enjoyable game that I have ever had playing DK Jr.
