So, installed a cap kit on my DK monitor and it turned out GREAT. Rebuilt the audio board while I was at it, got careless trying to hurry it back together and had some solder on the underside of the audio board touching the monitor chassis. Upon turning the machine on a cap on the DK pcb blew and took out two resistors with it. While annoying, a good lesson/reminder to slow things down.

The cap is so charred all I can make out is that the uf ends in 3 and it's 16v. The two resistors are unidentifiable. I immediately referenced the manuals and schematics, but can't make heads or tails of where the info is that identifies these three. I have the TKG4-14 two board set . The items on the board that need identified are at C13, R13 and R33. Anyone have any idea what these might be?

So I replaced these, made sure the audio board was seated properly, and the resistor at R33 and another nearby cap of the same type (33uF/16v) started smoking.

The resistors they sold me at Radio Shack are 1/2 watt - 5% tolerance.... Could this be the problem? I was asked the wattage and was unsure so they handed me those. I can't help but notice that these resistors are a little bit larger than the others on the board.

No -- going higher in wattage won't matter. Just make sure the resistance is of the right value for your board.
If the resistor is right value, you may have other problems on that board causing these parts to burn.
