DK Cabaret

Nah - it's a sticker.

I remember seeing someone else with a cabaret saying their Donkey Kong marquee sticker was actually stuck over a Space Firebird or some other game sticker.

Well you can be assured mine will have a light up marquee.

Are you building one? Or are you gonna cut into the wood and make one?

I'll be building one. I see the speaker grill is just cut into the kick panel below the marquee. The coin door under that looks standard for Nintys. I will need the 2 angles at the top of the cab figured out for me, and I would need to see the back door area. I think I have most of the materials here to build one, just need a CP and a Bezel. Hey Supergun, is that white countertop CP of yours for sale?

I wanna say the name of that game that was converted to DK was actually Space Demon but I could be wrong. And yes the marquee would look better lit up. It's the same deal with my Out Run min....can't believe they have empty space behind the marquee but no light on it.

I actually pitched that control panel after I found an original one.

That'd be a cool project.

That's right - it was Space Demon.

And I agree. Like with my Dig Dug cabaret, looks like all the preparations were there for one, but perhaps they decided to save themselves some $$...

Is the CP a mini wood one with a plexi overlay like the upright DK? Or is that a metal overlay over wood? If you're willing to measure your cab(s) for me, I think I could pull this off. I need to know the angles at the top like I mentioned, I need to know monitor angle, distance between CP and coindoor, distance between CP and marquee and diameter of the speaker grill, as well as how far the center of it is from the sides and bottom, etc. How far do the sides stick out past the kickplate? inch, inch and a quarter?

I'm willing to help with pics/measurement. I'm not sure offhand if I have something to accurately determine the angles, but I'll do what I can. Not sure if Pookdolie wants to help too, but that would save even more time. The CP is just wood with a plexi overlay just like the upright cab and the monitor has almost no angle to it at all....it may even just be laying flat.

There was one for sale on the East Coast not that long ago. I came very close to pursuing it. I kind of like it too. There is something about it that I really dig, I agree.

Good luck in your search. :)

Awesome! As far as figuring the angle, first you measure how tall the side is at it's tallest point (minus the base). Start from the bottom of the side panel and measure straight up to the tallest point. Write that measurement down. Now measure from the bottom up to the lowest point on the side panel in the front of the cab and mark that down. Now do the same on the back side. Now get a 4 foot level and find plumb starting at the top-most point of the side panel. Make a mark along the level somewhere in the wide part of the side panel. Now measure from front edge of side panel to the mark you made. Mark that measurement down. Measure from the back edge to that mark and write that measurement down. So you should now have 3 vertical measurements and 2 horizontal ones. From those 5 measurements, I can correctly plot the top angle.

Does that lower marquee light up?
Mine does, someone added a tracklight over my marquee before I bought it.
I'll sent you a picture when I find my camera.
I used to have 2 NOS marquee stickers, 1 was sent to ???? to be used on his project.
2nd is MIA, i gave it to one of my buddies who does artwork and he lost it when he switched jobs.

Nice, I really need a pic of the back of the machine, and a pic of the insides, especially one of how the monitor is mounted. Is it on metal brackets like the upright? Is it on wood ledges? Do the cabinet parts screw together with 3/4 inch wood bracing, or metal L-brackets? What kind of monitor was standard? Sanyo 14"? I have a WG 4800 13 inch with Mike's monitor inversion kit that I'll be using. Was there a need for a 100A transformer with 2 outlets in these machines as there is no marquee light? What does the bezel look like? Plain glass with instruction cards? I'll need a pic of that too. Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

Sounds good. I'll take a look at it later this week when I have some free time and report back. :)

Where is the power switch located on these cabs? Top, back, bottom? I assume bottom of the backside, but without pics, it's all speculation at this point. What kind of PCB holder did these use?

Thanks,

Willie Suckitt

You should have the dude who builds cabs here do this for you. I bet it wouldn't cost more than $250, and you already have all the other parts.

Plus, it will be way better than anything you could ever erect.

You mean the overwhelmed gentleman who changes his mind every week about selling everything and getting out or staying in business for another week? The poor guy who has had nothing but trouble with his new CNC rig since he purchased it? Cool, thanks for the tip.

Overwhelmed and having problems? Never heard of it.
