I have a dk3 Cabinet that was originally a dk that was converted with a conversion
kit before I got it. The Dk3 board has the edge connector and the metal box.

I want to pick up a dk board to convert it back..
This may be a silly question but... Will it just plug into the harness?
Anything I need to do?

I don't know which Nintendo boards use which power supply, to my understanding the difference is that one model outputs -5V and one doesn't.

I don't know if you knew (I certainly didn't understand the difference until I bought one...) but DK had two different board styles, one is the "4 board" which does not mount inside a cage and has like 20 different wiring connectors the plug into the various boards, and the 2 board, which uses the edge connector+filter board inside the metal cage like DK3 does. the two variations literally are either 4 interconnected boards and 2 interconnected boards respectively.

seek out a 2 board, and I'm ASSUMING it's completely compatible with a DK3 cab. research the different model PSUs first though.

I'd do that for you, but I'm drunk right now. :) recite from memory? yes. read numbers? no.

Thanks thats already great advice.. especially the part about the
drinking:) Now wheres my vodka...

Both actually.. started about a month ago. TOTALLY obsessed at this
point:) Its been really fun so far. Tough on the bank account! but fun.

don't gotta tell me. I have this problem where I just buy shit when the price is right.... sometimes when it's wrong too if I want it bad enough. lol

collection keeps getting bigger every day, I swear.

It depends really. Most DKs have multiple connectors which require a multiple plug type harness, (think .100 headers not edge fingers) DK3's have an edge connector and also go in an RF cage. They used but don't require the filter board that attach to the RF cage. The harness for a DK3 is different than a DK where it attaches to the board. So, basically you would need a DK harness as well.
Also, the PS should be fine as it was originally a DK. The only game that used a different PS was Popeye.

DK Board will fit fine in a DK3 Cab. But your wiring might be your problem?

For some reason my Extra Dk Board did'nt work in my dk3 machine. I was told it was the wiring it was causing it too not work right.

I've never checked it in my dk machine i have here now. I figure the person that told me this is right.

as I mentioned yesterday, DK came in two different board styles. I'm going to rationalize as to why this was by saying that the original 4 board variety (with multiple connectors) was the "dedicated" version, and the 2 board one was the "kit" version that you could swap out easily via the edge connector.

its compatibility rests on what kind of power supply you're running. I'm gonna say DKs was the one that had -5, cause I asked someone once if I could test my Mario Bros. board in my Popeye and they said no, cause that unit doesn't output -5V.

so yeah, if you can get a 2 board DK with the edge connector, it'll work in DK3.

the 4 board COULD work, but you'd have to replace the wiring harness, and you then lose out on being able to run DK3 in it.
