DK Blue vs. MP Blue - Close Enough to use as a basecoat?

I am going to be restoring another DK and have a half a quart of MP Blue left. I know it's a little darker, but would it work as a base coat? I hate to see this paint go to waste, so I'd like to use it up. Would it work under vinyl?

So this thread doesn't get moved to the ghost town that is the restoration forum, which shade of blue wins in an arcade cabinet aesthetics contest?

MP blue wins every time in my book.

Agreed. I love MP Blue. I think I am just gonna use it. If it looks too dark, I'll bring in my cp latch piece and get a quart of DK blue to apply over it. I just hate having to drop $18.xx per quart of oil based all surface enamel if I don't have to.

DK BLUE ALL THE WAY!

Here, you can use my second and freshly restored DK (with the original blue) as reference and inspiration :D:

freshly restored

I see fraying on the front panel bottom (see where the speaker is), a coin door with no lock, dirty t-mold on the cp front, and no dust washer on the joystick.

Freshly restored he says.

Did you go to the Fritz school of restoration?

Hell, mine has no coin mechs and a yellow jump button. At least I don't have fraying at the bottom I guess. Jow, that was pretty harsh. I hope Johnny forgives you.

You never said "look at my freshly restored DK and tell me if the MP color will work". Johnny loves me, and if frivolously working in the GAYsment to fix his DK.

Ha. This DK is the ORIGINAL blue finish. I didn't paint it. I let the ever so slight fraying be as I didn't want to botch the original finish.

I HATE dust washers. I haven't finished the CP. I need to paint it black and put new t-molding on it. It now has a lock. :)

And I do love Jow. :)

That was my 2.0 MP vivitar camera I used to use. I bet if I woulda used the wife's 10 mp Canon for that shot it woulda looked brighter. Oh well. Toodle-oo.

Didn't you sell that game? Did the buyer ever post pics? I bet we could see a good shot if they ever did?

Where are you getting your DK blue vinyl from? When I started my DK, nobody could find any so I painted. Now I'm getting hints and hearing whispers about some vinyl.

Rich at Thisoldgame.com . I have used his Mario and Red DK vinyl kits and been very pleased.

Alright, thanks. Wish I had found those a year ago. Of course, I probably would have not done a great job with that either...

The vinyl would not have saved you any work. You still need to prep and paint your cab before applying the vinyl. If anything, the vinyl will require more prep as any imperfections are magnified.
