I have been having a terrible time with my Joust. If it can go wrong, it has lol. I want to keep it original, as I plan on someday getting the original PCB working again. I recently purchased a JROK board but not the "JROK to Joust" wiring harness adapter. I don't want to go hacking up anything, just want a plug in adapter. In other words, I want this 100% reversible with just plugging the original back in.

Has anyone made any DIY harnesses like this? I just wonder, so as to not have to fly blind when attempting my own.

If not, is there a picture of one of these harnesses anywhere? I assume you would adapt a keyed jamma connector to replacement headers, then plug the headers into your original cabinet wiring harness. Does this sound right? Not trying to re-invent the wheel here. I tried contacting JROK to purchase an adapter and can't seem to get a response. I have a limited time before I go back to work (on seasonal layoff) and want to get this thing playable before then. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, does anyone sell these adapter kits or is it only with boards you can purchase them?

Thanks!

He tried James and hasn't gotten a response.

Side note: James posted a message recently saying he has been crazy busy this summer and it may take a while to get an answer back from him.

I'm probably not going to make any more of the JAMMA to original wiring harness adapters, they're just too time consuming to make.

But the base wiring for the all the harnesses is in this diagram

The controls need to be wired for the specific game, Joust would uses the 1P and 2P start, 1p/2p left & right, plus the 1P & 2P button1 ( flap ) wiring.

The connectors are molex KK 0.156" headers for plugging directly into the original harness.

Here's also the stargate wiring.

Thank you, that is VERY helpful! Ordered some headers so I should be good to go. Just out of curiosity, how is soldering wires onto headers? I assume you just flux the posts and wires, possibly tin them beforehand?

EDIT:

One small question:

P2 Button 1 (flap), where does it go on the JAMMA connector. Standard JAMMA pinouts would say "Z" would be where it goes, but I don't see it labeled on the above WSF JAMMA to Williams Harness image. I just want to make sure on this. Every other button/switch makes sense to me.

EDIT: Never mind the above edit: http://www.jrok.com/hardware/wsf/WSF_JAMMA_pinouts.html that came from JROKland!

I have some 0.156" spaced fingerboards and solder the headers to the fingerboard and then solder the JAMMA wiring to fingerboard. You can just use a JAMMA fingerboard as it's the right pitch, plus cut sections to the length of the connector. It makes the soldering much easier as when soldering directly to the pins you have to be careful not to heat for too long and melt the plastic.

These are the lead lengths I was using for Defender, Joust was the same but with the speaker lead 22" long to avoid it being too tight.
