I have a Dixie Narco (model: DMV72w-10R) soda/pop machine. A couple months ago it stopped cooling. I am now just getting around to fix it.

I have been searching for both a local repair shop and a service manual. I have reveiwed multiple "no's - we don't work on that" response. So I am gearing up to troubleshoot refrigeration. But I have not found any information on DMV72w-10R, short of a coin issue (and no service manuals).

A quick, easy repair seems to replace the thermostat. Would this be a good start, or is there another place to begin? I fear if I get into the compressor area, it becomes a little more problematic with my zero experience in working on a machine like this.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Don't just replace parts without knowing if they are bad. The cold control also sometimes known as a thermostat is an on and off switch controlled by temperature. If you remove the two wires from it and connect them together (insulate them too, no shorting please) the compressor should run. If not, the compressor or compressor's start relay might be bad.

Make sure you have at least 110 volts to it and a good cord and plug-in.

You could have a fan that isn't running or dirty condenser coils. Lots of things can cause a no cooling or very little cooling condition.

If the compressor and fans are all running, and still no cooling, you might be very low on freon.

Does the machine have the ribbon style condenser in it? They are notorious for going bad. Make sure both fans are running. You could jump the thermostat as well. Make sure you unplug the machine before disconnecting the thermostat and jumping together.
