Buddy of mine just got a monitor board repaired for his Lethal Enforcers cabinet. When he put it back in and booted the game up the picture was great and back to normal. So he went and moved the cab back across the basement to its normal location and the screen was distorted in some spots. What could be the main cause and what'll be the best bet to clear it back up.

is that picture what you are saying is "distorted in some spots?" - because it looks WAY more than distorted in a few spots.

that being said, when i read your post I was thinking that it needs to be degaussed in the spot that its going to sit in. however deguassing will not fix whats wrong in that picture.

also electrical wiring running in the wall can cause issues - or if you have an electrical furnace on the other side of the wall the game is on.

if he moves it back to the original spot does it fix it?

What you're seeing is discoloration due to the magnetic change from going from one direction to another.

You will need to degauss the monitor. You can buy degaussing coils online for around $35

I assume you didn't see the attached image. This is NOT a degauss issue... looks to be a horizontal hold issue.

We've adjusted the H Hold and it didn't help, I believe I did take a pick during an adjustment so i don't thinks as bad as it looks in the pic.

Might be. But I'm talking about the discoloration in the pic. That is a degauss issue.
I assumed the rolling was from the screen changing during the pic. I've had that happen before and it looked like I had horizontal hold issues and it was just the way the pic took.

if you have cold solder on the signal header, it can do intermittent things like this. follow the video signal off the JAMMA harness, give the wiring a good wiggle, does it magically clear up? are you sure it's the horizontal hold and not vertical hold?

since the tube sits flat and reflected against a mirror, it will be more prone to magnetic interference. a lot of times you can rotate the game 90 degrees and it'll probably clear on its own. others, it'll take a few power cycles to let the built in degauss coil do its job. for immediate results obviously a manual degauss coil will work better.
