Since this thread moved into a "Star Tours" discussion, I thought I would share my experience/thoughts. The updated attraction is CONSIDERABLY different than before. Your experience is actually random, and you can ride it over and over and it won't be the same ride twice. Apparently, they made several different intro sections which then branch into one of several different planet visits which is then followed by a transmission from one of the characters from the movies (such as Yoda or Princess Leia) and then finally the last sequence ends up on yet another planet/location. Supposedly there are over 50 combinations to the ride total.
I rode it in Disney World a couple of weeks back. It was definitely a refreshing change over the old ride. They also remodeled the walkway through and up into the ride. It is a lot "cleaner" and doesn't have all of the "junk" being conveyered around the place like it used to. It's definitely a LOT different. Adding all of the random elements to the ride makes you want to go back again and again. I think we only had enough time to ride it 3 times. The seamless nature in which the ride is able to change locations made it obvious that they moved away from film and went to 100% streaming the data directly from a hard drive. This type of setup wouldn't have been possible when they made the original version of the ride...
As for the Magic Kingdom arcade, it has much less equipment than it did just 4 years ago. Sad, really. My son was looking forward to playing some "Panic Park", and it wasn't there. Even the 8 player Daytona Deluxe setup was no longer there. I suppose that arcades just don't make enough money any more. Even the location on main street that used to house the old arcade back in the early days is now 100% retail store. The last time I was there, they had several Mutoscopes in the store, along with a really neat old portable mechanical player piano/band that Walt Disney had purchased back in the 1950's as a conversation piece. Guess it was taking up too much space that could be used to hold corny t-shirts.
