My wife and I hadn't been to a Disney park since our honeymoon over 3 years ago. We had the opportunity to go to Disneyland/CA Adventure while down in LA for family events. I was sad that Star Tours was closed (they are renovating and revamping it for 2011). Though, they did bring back Captain EO as a tribute to Michael Jackson.

Anyways, I had to swing by the Starcade as I have fond memories of going there as a kid on my many trips to Disneyland. I expected the worst (only shooters, drivers, ddr, etc.) which is what I discovered when walking in, but it wasn't ALL that bad.

Here's a list of the games I remember seeing:

- Ms. Pac/Galaga Reunion
- Neo Geo MVS Mini (US Red 13")
- Star Wars Trilogy
- Blazing Angels
- Jurassic Park
- Let's Go Jungle
- Nascar (X2)
- Maximum Tune 2 (X2)
- Tokyo Drift (X2)
- Mario Kart GP (X2)
- After Burner Climax
- Guitar Hero
- Pirates of the Caribbean Pinball
- DDR Supernova
- Sea Wolf: The Next Mission
- Sega UFO Catcher
- Namco Super Scooper
- Air Hockey Tables, Basketball, Skeeball, etc.

More pictures to follow.

Starcade

I might be on my own saying this but I thought Captain EO ws pretty cool when it came out. Some of the best 3D I had seen at that point.

I wonder when they closed Star Tours? We were there the week before 4th of July and went on it.

Star Tours at Disneyland closed July 27th.

The new attraction is called Star Tours: The Adventures Continue. Supposedly they are going to change to this new attraction at all the parks.

The arcade at Disneyland needs an upgrade too.

We were there last October, and I was really dissapointed, especially given how much better the arcade at the exit for Space Mountain has been (or possibly was) at Disney World in Orlando. I asked an employee about a set of stairs that goes to an upper level, which was blocked off. They told me that the arcade used to be at least TWICE as big, as it used the upstairs space as well. Even though the lights were off upstairs, you could see that there was a FULL SIZE "X Wing" hanging from the ceiling up there. Sad, really...

i remember going there in 1983 when the arcade was in full swing and boy, did Disney ever have a huge collection at the time. of course, we didn't spend too much time in the arcade as my parents were somewhat frugal and i could play games someplace else that they weren't already paying lots of money to get us into.

it doesn't surprise me that Star Tours is finally getting a revamp. basically they can clean up the rides, film a new sequence and program the movements and have something new to show off with a relatively minor investment. of course, this being Disney they'll probably completely redo everything the public sees but hey, that's one reason we all keep coming back.

Captain EO was just as awesome as I remembered! I bought a poster for the game room. :D

I forgot to mention that the second level was closed off still. I do remember both floors having arcade games BITD. As mentioned, I believe the top floor of Starcade is being renovated as well most likely to incorporate another store or possibly interactive displays. Who knows? Something to be excited about.

I should also mention the arcade was practically empty. From the pictures you can see maybe 3-4 people walking around or playing games. It was a sad sight, but hopefully with the re-opening of Star Tours, there will be more traffic and possibly a refreshing of the game selection. I wouldn't count on it, but one could always hope.

Considering the first one sucks, what is there to be excited about? Fake rides are never fun.

Yeah, the first one is definitely outdated as far as shock value, but if you're a Star Wars fan, it's still enjoyable IMO. I'm just curious (and excited) to see what they come up with to make it better.

They've been pretty innovative lately as far as their new rides. Toy Story Midway Mania in CA Adventure specifically. I had a lot of fun on that one and you definitely get that carnival game feel when you're shooting at targets.

Loved it when it first opened... Loved it every time I've ridden it since... Will love it when I can take my kids on it in the future! (they're only 4.5)

What is there to love? You sit in a chair and watch 5 mins of a movie while said chair vibrates. Its awful. The only reason I went on it in June was because my wife mentioned she had never been on it. After telling her "you aren't missing anything", she insisted. She was colored disappointed to say the least.

Yeah, everyone has their own preference and opinion of what is "fun." It's the same thing with anything like arcade games. Not everyone is going to love a specific game. I mean, you could rant and rave about how good Balloon Fight is (and I agree) but I'm sure there are guys who think the game sucks big time. But one thing is clear: you really, really don't like Star Tours. Haha.

OK, how about this. Take the SW theme off that ride. Is it still cool? Do you think "Cruising California" or whatever its called at CA Adventure is that awesome? Did you think Days of Thunder at Great America was awesome?

(please dont say yes to any of those)
