Disneyland's Starcade as of 8.12.11 (& Flynn's Arcade)

My family went to Disneyland/CA Adventure on Friday and I was able to take some snapshots of Starcade and Flynn's. I feel it's good to document these things since Flynn's will be taken down most likely by the end of the year and Starcade seems to be getting smaller every time I visit.

I did this thread last year on Starcade and it's sad how much it's downsized (I'd say 50% to make room for more merchandise). At this rate, it may be phased out completely by next year. Apparently, they don't have enough room for all of their merchandise. Too bad I don't have any pictures of how it looked like in the 80s and early 90s.

Flynn's pictures to come.

It was my first time at Flynn's and it was pretty cool. 80s music blasting, neon lights, all the great sounds, etc. From what I heard, they took a good amount of games out to make it more roomy for the late night crowd. Supposedly, during the elecTRONica nighttime show, it gets pretty busy.

I didn't play a lot of games (25 cents a play) so I can't say how well they were maintained, but they all looked to be in pretty good shape and working for the most part. I only got two games of Pole Position in before I had to go to World of Color. Ironically, Tron was out of order. They had a cool out of order sign printed in dot matrix style. Nice touch. Haha.

I took home $20 worth of tokens to either use on my games at home or just as a keepsake since Flynn's will be taken down eventually. It's sad that they can't make it a permanent fixture in either park (maybe have it replace Starcade?) or even downtown Disney, but I know it's meant to be more of a prop than a money maker.

Awesome Jess ! Great pics :) Wish I could have met up with you. Looks like you had a good time.

Yeah, I don't know how I even thought I'd have time on Saturday to hang. Haha. The weekend went by so fast.

Dude, I'm sure you've heard of it, but we had Bruxie for the first time ever yesterday. Oh...my...goodness. It was delicious. In fact, so delicious, we had it again for brunch today before we got dropped off at the airport. They seriously need to open a Bay Area location.

Here's the S'more one I had for dessert for lunch yesterday. I'm drooling just looking at it. :D

Mmmm, what is that running on the Berzerk ? "Multi-Williams" ??

great pics, love the Flynn's arcade. Those neons are fabulous, I'd try to reserve some if they really are going to close it. By the way, does that mean there will be now new Tron movie ? ;)

Nice touch ! It is fake though, the tractor holes look printed (they don't go through all the way) but OK, who still has a real dot-matrix around these days ;)

Wonder what they used to print it...

Yeah, the Berzerk was running a MW board. I didn't really take a good look at it though. I heard they were supposed to close Flynn's before the summer season, but it got extended due to popularity? Either way, they haven't confirmed any sequels for Tron Legacy yet that I know of.

But if we were to do a sequel based on how much Disney spent on marketing, merchandise (much of which ended up on clearance shelves), etc. and how much the movie made at the box office, I'd say they've penned it as a failure and it's not lucrative enough for them to do so. Though, I'd love to see them try and do at least one more to make it a complete trilogy.

I'm sure they are having shrinkage in their inventory of tokens but then again, it would be like printing your own money.

I bet guys take them as souvenirs and even for their own home arcades.

Nice pics Jess! Looks like from the pictures you picked up some gold Flynn tokens? I ended up getting $15 bucks worth of tokens myself but they were silver ones only 1 gold token was mixed in my silver ones I thought the gold ones were like limited or something? How did you like Electronica?I spent the whole week at that place and Flynns going to miss it.

I think the initial run of tokens were gold and now they are mostly silver. Out of 80 tokens that I got, only two were gold. I don't think it means anything. My guess is they started running low on tokens and did more runs but in silver.

I didn't get to stay for elecTRONica. We had fast passes for World of Color at 9. Unfortunately, when you go to Disneyland/CA Adventure for only one day with family and friends, there's only so much you can do.

It will be interesting to see what they will do to replace all of the Tron attractions once they go down.

This is interesting. I was there with my wife and kids over the 4th of July this summer (just 6 weeks ago), and all the tokens that I got were gold.

I know the arcade hasn't been around that long, but if it's any indication, the silver tokens I got looked brand spanking new like they've never been used.

So like I said, it could just be they did another run of tokens but decided to go silver instead of gold. I don't mind either way. I'm just happy I was able to grab a pile as I'm pretty sure it will long gone by the time I go back again.

My guess is Gene (the operator from Vintage Arcade Superstore) will end up with all of the leftover tokens or will have to return them to Disney to have destroyed or stored away. I don't know how these arrangements work.
