hello,my family has the annual pass and we love it. we went to disney quest which is not included in our package but were very unhappy with the condition of the games. we heard about the classic games you have there and found they were in poor shape.

SPY HUNTER------this one is a favorite game and unplayable.where do i start? color is completly washed out needs a cap kit bad. the car barely moves needs a new 5K pot for the gas pedal, and no peter gunn background music.
please forward this to the person in charge of maintaining the games, if needed i can come out for a fee and repair these classics back to the way they should operate, thanks Paul

I wrote them basically the exact same letter 3 years ago. A disney rep called me and offered me a refund if I had my admission stubs. I of course did not so that was that.

When I worked there they had a third party company that did all the repairs on the arcade games and pins, it was only two guys. The Disney Techs only worked on Disney attraction/games.

i am never going back there again. i might call them to try to get my money back, still have my ticket stubs..

i imagine they wouldn't cause they're a big corporation, but how would something like offering trading work for passes work for them? seems like a lot of relatively easy repairs, but i guess in the same light the people that do the repairs would lose money and but the squeeze on them to use them only...

i got a response from disney, they are giving me 4 free passes to quest and assuring me the problems will be fixed, we will see if that happens.

I'm going in December - hope they're fixed by then! If not I'll be complaining for some free tickets too :)

Here's the state of the place I reported early last October. Sounds like mostly different issues. So perhaps they are addressing the problems... just not as fast as they are occurring. BTW "did not play" meant that I didn't play that game, not that it didn't work:

Went to Disney Quest on Sunday. Was there most of the afternoon, left for dinner, then returned after dinner until close. Crowd wasn't bad. Rarely had to wait to play anything. Occationally a pod of kids would swarm in, but they had attention spans measured in seconds and usually cleared out well before playing a complete game. The classic video games were, overall, in a fairly sad state of disrepair. The 6 pins there worked, but a few were less than 100%. Below is a summary of what I saw there. I may have omitted a few other Ms Pacs, Galagas, and DKs sprinkled in there. I also did not note (or play) any of the several modern multi-cade-type things. This is from memory, so I'm sure I've missed 5-10 others that were in there:

Pins (5th floor):
Pirates of the Carribean (ship dead)
CSI (dead slingshot)
Iron Man
Batman
Indiana Jones
Spiderman

Vids (5th floor):
Karate Champ (did not play)
Kangaroo (ok)
Zaxxon (joystick somewhat messed up)
Phoenix (ok)
Pengo (ok)
Burgertime (ok)
Jungle King (ok)
Elevator Action (did not play)
Missile Command (unplayable, bad trackball)
Joust (monitor missing a color, blue or green)
Pac man (ok)
Donkey Kong (ok)
Front Line (controls jacked up)
Mario Bros. (ok)
Q-bert (ok)
Frogger (ok)
Dig Dug (joystick centering bellows worn out, monitor badly adjusted)
Tron (did not play)
Discs of Tron (ok)
Millipede (unplayable, non-working buttons)
Centipede (unplayable, trackball almost never registered right motion)
Asteroids (monitor badly adjusted, but playable)

Vids (3rd floor):
Arkanoid (monitor missing red)
Dig Dug (ok)
Namco Reunion (high score jacked)
Tron (ok)
Donkey Kong Jr (did not play)
Donkey Kong (ok)
Lunar Lander (monitor very jittery, dirty pots?)
Galaga (did not play)
Galaxian (ok)
Robotron (ok)
Taito Space Invaders/Qix combo (ok)
Moon Patrol (ok)
Space Invaders Deluxe (OK)
Frogger (monitor missing a color)
Marble Madness (ok)
Spy Hunter (more or less OK, maybe a button issue?)

Some observations about what is NOT there:
All the pins are modern; no "classic" pins here (pre-DMD SS or EM)
Only a few vector games (Ast, Ast Dlx & LL); NO color vectors (e.g. Tempest, Star Wars)
No cocktail cabinets at all.
Classic racing games not represented (no Monaco GP, Turbo, PP, Out Run, etc.)
Other notable uber-classics missing: Defender, Dragon's Lair, Pong.

We had an enjoyable time, in spite of the issues.

The amount of traffic they get there and the abuse those games take am not surprise things get broke again and again.

They can be fixed but it takes one person to brake them again.

If they own the games they will do what it takes to make it last longer between brakes..
Trust me they dont like fixing the same thing over and over again if they can find a way to make last longer.

As of June 21st, 2011

The classic gaming was terrible. I am not much of a repair guy, but I can focus monitors and replace cherry switches.

It was sad to say the least. 2 trons that were in horrid condition and left to dissapoint people on the floor. discs of tron was playable but not right.

Qbert was good.

Asteroids monitor needed lots of attention. several of the pins had issues.

it was a to say the least not the fun I wanted. I found myself peroccupied by the thought that I paid very good money to go there, and was basically handed a turd.

So if your not planning to play the modern games, and don't want to visit water parks.. don't waste the money, because repairing and maintaining the classics doesn't seem to be a concern.

Don't know if anyone remembers, but there was a DisneyQuest in Chicago for a year or two back in the late 90s. They actually contracted with me to buy all of the games in there.

I sold them the BEST games I had ever found in 10 years of hoarding. The ones in the best condition and working 100% with everything rebuilt like new. The guy in charge at the time was Greg Zittrain (very nice guy) and he had standards that could not be compromised.

I visited the games a couple times and they seemed to be holding up pretty well. I had been to the DQ in Orlando and I wanted to give them something better and I truly did.

Anyway, DQ didn't fly in Chicago. Greg moved on to some other role. I never was able to find out what happened to the games I sold them. But I can tell you one thing - not a single one of them found its way to the Orlando DQ. I was just there myself a couple months ago hoping to see some of my old games.

The junk they had in that Orlando DQ was on par with what you would find at a game auction. Totally beat cabinets, not even original in some cases, some painted black with a brush. Games partially working. Etc. It really was like being at preview for a superauctions.

I'm personally not bitter about it at all. I just can't believe that a company with the resources Disney has can't procure and/or maintain decent classics. Come on...they aren't that hard to find in nice shape, and they aren't that hard to keep going. And those games don't get all that much abuse. Like was said earlier, the kids try them for 10 seconds and walk away. The only ones truly playing them are people like us who appreciate them and aren't going to kick the crap out of them.

I'm bummed that the DQ concept didn't work. They had plans to build 30 of them around the world, and I had a signed contract to provide all the games.

Oh well, there's my two cents.

John

I'm going to be visiting Disney Quest on Monday. Is there anything in particular that someone wants me to check out or look for while I am there? I will check out the classics and post how things look and if things are any better...
