Disney Quest pics...lots of classics

I don't know about this. Especially when story became more of an element, it's fun to see the end of certain games without having to blow $10+ in quarters. The Time Crisis series for example, or even Dragon's Lair.

Games that have limited or no continues like DL, yes. Because you still have to eventually get good enough to reach the end and until then, you spend a lot less money. There is still the goal of trying not to get killed and improving your skills. Games like gauntlet with unlimited continues lose a little something though when there is no additional cost to add life or penalty for dying. Imagine playing Donkey Kong for the very first time and it used a health meter. Just running through the barrels taking life points off and just press the credit button to add health when it gets low. No worries, you paid the entry fee to get into the arcade. Kill screen here I come, and I only pressed the credit button 300 times. I would probably never play it again and have no incentive to become a better player. Gauntlet, and games like it only worked because they were so damn expensive to play that if you didn't improve your skills you ran out of money quickly.

anytime I'm up in Orlando which is a couple times a year I always try and go to Disney Quest. they have 2 floors with sections of classics, I believe the 3rd and 5th? its a lil pricey $40 something plus tax, but if you go like the last 2 hours before they close its like $20, weeknights they close at 10pm and weekends at 11pm

Glad to see you had a good time and I'm glad they still have the classics.

I've been there a few times but the last 2 trips a few years back (January 2006 and Sept 2007) were very disappointing. It was as if no one was maintaining the games AT ALL. Half we're dead and all of the "working" machines either had bad monitors or non-working controls.

I wrote them a long letter asking them to please fix the games seeing that they hadn't been maintained in close to a year and a half. I was pretty sure by the looks of things it was only a matter of time before they disappeared.

Apparently they only had one older guy who serviced all their machines "very" part-time. I was surprised to hear that. Disney usually overdoes everything to make sure things are top notch.

This is good news though. I wasn't even going to bother next time but it looks like I will be going there on my next trip thanks to your post!

I thought the games looked kinda beat also. I would have thought Disney would have taken better care of them. Cool none the less. Thanks for posting this Wickedbass I guess I can see now why it's taking so long to get my shippment from you. Looks like you have been busy.

No side art on the DK ? Whats up with that?

Nice pics.. will show my kids so they can see what an arcade looked like...

I go to DisneyQuest every time I'm in Orlando...about every 1-2 years. Unfortunately, my wife's not very patient with me. I'm also proud to say that I'm one of the few that went to the Chicago one as well...and I've only been to Chicago twice. Those games take such a beating that I'm surprised that as many of them work as possible. The SW cockpit is also hit or miss there...I've seen it once, but another time it was gone...but they had an ESB upright, so just as good for me!

There was one in Chicago...but it closed after only 2 years. Disney had plans to open one in many major cities but after Chicago went belly up...the plans were scrapped.

I lived in Orlando for several years, but never went to it. I had heard it was kind of expensive, and although I wanted to go I never made it. Now that I've been revisiting old games I've never played I would seriously like to go. Especially since there's absolutely nothing around here like that.

All I have is the Ms. Pac-Man with the speed chip at CiCi's Pizza. Woe is me.

Thanks for the pics by the way, now I know what I've been missing all these years. It's really sad when a place like this can't survive in a major city, when Dave and Buster's thrive. I wouldn't complain if D&B carried a few more classics, instead of 3 walls of racing games.

I was there this summer in July. The place was packed. The price was included in our vacation package but the admission price for guest over 10 years of age was $42.50 per person. 3-9 was $36. If you purchase your tickets in advance, I think you can save about $10. For my kids and I to get in would have cost in excess of $200.

I played Tron, which had a monitor in need of a cap kit and joystick that didn't work, attempted to play Frogger but neither the 1 player or 2 player credit button worked, and tried to play a game of Donkey Kong that had a joystick that refused to go up. Galaga worked fine and the games I remember seeing were Lunar Lander, Mr. Do, Tron, Galaga, Glaxian, DK, Asteroids, Super Pacman, Ms. Pacman, Pacman (speed chip) Pengo, Qbert and Gorf. There were a lot more, but chasing kids around left me little time to take a full inventory.

We spent most of our time on the fourth floor where they had more modern games including Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution. These games worked without issue. They also had air hockey on this floor and the puck consistently got stuck...the only way to get the puck back was to restart the game.

The place is great, but for the price of admission, you'd expect the games to be in better working condition. The lines for the virtual reality games they have on the lower floors were way to long for us to wait in.

I have a few free tickets that I need to use up soon. I went last year with friends but it was the same old story. I just wanted to stay in the arcade and everyone else wanted to do everything else. Honestly I should probably just go alone.

I also found out today that I get tickets half off as a Disney Cast Member. Hell yea! This is going to become a pretty regular thing for me...
