Discussion and Production: AD and LL interface for the Asteroids Multi-game

Lunar Lander Actually:
So it's the Interface for Asteroids Multi-game (Asteroids Deluxe Multi-game will not work as is)

Just want an early gauge of numbers and a discussion about the little interface circuit used to allow a lunar lander thruster to work on the Braze Asteroids multi-game kit.

SaminVa has started the ball rolling with a working prototype, and now that Takeman is making the multigame control panels, it would be a good time to get these happening

Please let me know if you want one

Thank you

Wonder how many people on the interested list already have a Asteroids Mutligame kit, I know "road.runner" has one (several), how many others are there ? Put me down for one but it would be contingent upon the Asteroids MM Kit ever being released kind of pointless to spend 100+ for Control Panel, Overlay, Thruster Interface, Thruster, etc. if the kits will never be released to the general public.

Well, I don't have a kit, but I'm taking the chance that it will be released... some day :D

What would be provided as part of this 'interface'?

Let's discuss what is needed? :)

The PCB may be able to attach directly to the AD Multi Kit

I was a beta tester, so I will see what's involved.
There will need to be a 3 wire harness to solder to the thruster

Any thing else? :)

It's probably not wasted money, more like an investment. Let's say Scott finishes the kits and releases them, how hard will it be to get the control panel, interface and overlay then. Better to get the majority of the components when you can.

Worst case scenario, down the track, sell them :)

Yes we can attach the board directly to the kit. The problem I had was theirs very little space between the Pokey chip and the resistor network. That's why I used a ribbon cable. It's all I had on hand that would work. You should be able to add a 10 pin header riser that would bring the board connection above the pokey chip.

PC boards should be half the size of my prototype board, even smaller if you were to use SMT chips.
Besides the board the next costly component would be the ADC0804 chip but their only $3.00 or less depending on how many you buy. I thought I found a almost drop in ready made board which would need a slight mod but they are sold by a company in India. I contacted them and they said they ship to the USA and they were suppose to send me Pay pal info so I could place an order but after 3 tries I gave up. Here a link to the board. They cost Rs.300.00 which works out to $5.73 each in USD

They did send me their ADC manual which has schmatics of their board.

I am thinking of trying to work in mission control lights somehow

Any one else wondered this? Is it possible

James Hagen (vectorbeam81) was Scott's original beta tester. I had contacted him a few times and we talked about the AD interface board. He built one long before I ever got a kit but he wanted to incorporate the mission light panel into the multi game. I think in order to do this Scott or someone would have to write some new code and maybe even add something else to the hardware but I am not 100% sure. I decided I could live with the on screen mission splash screen and the new multi panel doesn't incorporate a spot for the mission panel but thats Ok for me..

And so... I would use what as an actual thruster?
(I want one anyway. Just trying to 'scope' the effort.)

Good point, . . . Well, there are a few options

1. Use the multi Asteroids panel from Troy and "find" a thruster, or make 1 like i did. I would advise against making one. :)
2. Use your Asteroids or AD Game and a mini thruster like Sam used in his video, then find a creative way to fit it to the game
3. Enter your other options here . . . . . :D

I just thought of an option 3

Ask Troy to make a 4th type of panel, almost the same as the Multi panel, but with no thruster cutout

IE buy one of these

And fit it to Troy's hypothetical 4th option

It has a button on it for abort too if needed, but is available without it

(as suggested by Gibo in an earlier thread)

And, the pot is 5K like LL is
